Defensive ROY Predictons

I would say it comes down to 3

Morris Claiborne
Luke Kuechley
Chandler Jones

Things to be taken into consideration:

Since 2002 only 1 DROY has been a 2nd round draft pick. Six have been drafted in the top 10. Nine in the top 15.

I would say that Claiborne has a chance, but I would say that Luke Kuechly is the safest bet.

Last time the cowboys had a defensive or offensive rookie of the year?

Never on defense

Emmitt Smith, Tony Dorsett, and Calvin Hill on offense.

Offensive or defensive Player of the year?

Offense? Never

Defense? 1977 Harvey Martin

Yea but he was on a bad defense and a worse team...

Agree on this. If Claiborne has eight or nine interceptions, the defense improves and the Cowboys end up in the playoffs, it will put him in the running.

I'd also go with Melvin Ingram.
He fell into a great situation and his team should be in for a major bounce back year in the wacky West.

Solid DL and CBs around him in SD and an explosive offense.

He's basically replacing a guy who got 11 sacks last year.

Agreed......he is going to need at least 7 or 8 picks and the team in the playoffs to have a chance.

Well one advantage that Mo has is that he won't have a problem getting media exposure, that's for sure. If Dallas has a good season next year because of improved defense, specifically passing defense, I'd say Mo has a great chance at getting that award as long as he plays to his potential.

Jarius Byrd the safety for Buffalo had 9 picks in 2009, his rookie year. Granted he was a safety, however, 9 interceptions is A LOT.

Jarius Byrd was a 4th round pick too, Matt Johnson anyone??(j/k). Kuechley is gonna be good with Beason playing beside him. My dark horse pick is Mychal Kendricks, dude is a tackling machine.

It is an eternal shame on the Cowboys until Harvey martin is put into the ring.

Defensive backs almost never win the Defensive Rookie if the Year. Even getting 8-9 interceptions usually wont' do it. It's basically goes to pass rushers most of the time.

Last CB to win DROY was Charles Woodson in 1998.

Right. A knocked down pass doesn't count much in the stats, or replay hits.
