Defensive Tackle Thoughts

I don't see any players that I would want to cut and replace with a cut from another team.
- They'll only keep 5 on the 53.

  • Veterans
    • Brent Urban
    • Carlos Watkins
  • Terrific Looking Young Player
    • Osa Odighizuwa
  • Where's the Beef
    • Quinton Bohanna
    • Justin Hamilton
These players can play the run.

If they want more pass rush on 3rd downs then use more 3-3-5 Nickel instead of the standard 4-2-5 Nickel.
- In 3-3-5 one DT is replaced by a LB.
I think Gallimore/Hill have the pass rush potential in the nickel, but they need to get onto the field first. Very excited about Osa, could be a diamond in the rough.

They will probably cut Hamilton and then possibly bring him back once they IR Gallimore.
He has played well this preseason. I think he is better than Woods was in past years. He was ahead of Bohanna on the depth chart for the Texans game.

I didn't comment on them because they'll be on IR.

I feel better about DT than I did the last couple seasons, mainly, cause of the depth they added...Osa, Urban and Watkins. Although, I don't know what Watkins brings hopefully he plays solid ball.

I think Hamilton goes first when Gallimore comes back and Hill stays on PUP or goes to IR. I don't think they are ready to give upon him just yet. Neither am I. And remember, Urban and Watkins on both on 1 year deals. If they play well, the Cowboys won't be able to sign them again next year. If they don't play well, then the Cowboys will let them both go.

One year rentals.

The best depth we’ve had in a long time. Also the worst starters we’ve had in a long time (aside from last year). Odigi and Gallimore might get there in time but guys like McLain, Irving, and M.Collins were better then the current levels from what I can tell.

This it has to start somewhere... right?

Assuming we have Hill, Odigi, Gallimore and Bohanna I don’t think we need to re-sign them. Four is pretty normal and Golston might beef up to a tweener size to contribute as a 5th guy.

- I'm not convinced with a Justin Hamilton vs the more talented, competitive teams.
He's a simple piece until Gallimore gets back ...and then boom ..cut .

- Quite simply i need to see the likes of Urban, Watkins, Osa,, Bohanna ...and even when Gallimore returns, .what this DT ..and front seven unit can do vs
the starting team of opposing teams on a full game- full season basis. . vs just a couple of series in preseason vs 2nd line backups .

- i am optimistic of what i've seen of the active Osa .in preseason .and what he could be by season's end.
keep in mind with both rookies Osa and Bohanna that they are still learning as they learn and adjust to the nuisances of the NFL trenches, and on the move,
as they further gain game experience,

They will have speed bumps and a few struggles as the season goes along, but the hope is they have more good plays than bad ones.and be that much
more better come season's end.

- But just as we need a true force as a run defender ala dalvin Thompson, Linval Joseph, Suh, etc. .. we also need a true

- Trysten Hill - i dunno what to make of his current status ... PUP, or IR .or .. .. i do know from my view that i'd still like to see what a healthy Hill can do
while getting significant reps and playing time - even if its in rotation packages .. on a full season basis.

Dunno if Hill will be PUP or permanent IR .... but Gallimore more likely short term IR per 3 weeks.
Hope he can eventually develop into a Grady Jarrett like performer and potential ....

What's the alignment and personnel? I don't see it.

Our best pass rushers are Lawrence and Gregory, and they're best with their hands in the dirt on the edge, making the most of their bend.

Even ignoring getting Lawrence and Gregory lined up where they're most effective, I don't see the LBs to make it work. Need 2 who can cover and rush to get some surprise on who rushes to make up for suboptimal positioning and players to rush heads up, and I only see Parsons as a potential there.

Unless we plan on beating teams with coverage, and half the time only rushing 3. Then Parsons rushes or he doesn't. But half the time rushing 3 doesn't seem viable either.

What you're showing is that with Gallimore out, we're down to one pass rushing DT in Osa.

How is Neal as a blitzer? He does seem like a downhill player. Cox?

Strangely, despite his size and agility, LVE never seemed to catch on as a pass rusher.

I dunno. Maybe they could manage a decent pass rush between them, with each enough of a threat that they all have to be accounted for whether or not they come.

They could try 3-3-5, but I don't see the personnel to match. Poor fit for Lawrence and Gregory.
