I'm trying to get straight where we are at defensive tackle - 1 tech. Let me see if I can get straight the depth chart of guys we've had or wanted to have at the position:

1 - M. Collins - currently injured with knee sprain
2 - A. Woods - currently injured
3 - Datone Jones - currently on injured reserve
4 - Brian Price - currently on Browns P.S. getting paid $37,000 per week. Could we get him for more?
5 - Daniel Ross - our starter
6 - Adolphous Washington - poached off our practice squad
7 - Caruan Reid - our back-up. Actually played against Lions, which I didn't realize during the game.

Have I got that right? Did I forget anybody?

The amazing part is we’ve actually got solid play there though I need a roster to see who’s in there

Good question. Lack of 1-Tech is why teams run up our gut and make/force our LB’s to do so much. LVE has way too many tackles but thank God he’s back there...

Now that DI is back, I'm sure his is in tip top physical & mental condition & will have the position on lockdown .....

David Irving’s return comes at a good time, but I will be surprised if he shows up in great shape and makes an immediate splash. Irving is talented but about as reliable as a rain dance.

I keep thinking that one of these days, this organization is going to wake up to the need to draft a top notch DT (1 tech) as opposed to depending on retreads, UFAs and middle round draft picks. Isn’t Russell Maryland in 1990 the last DT we drafted in the first round?

From 1-7 who won't be able to suit up sunday night?

in this defense it is supposed to be the LB that make the tackles especially the WLB that LVE was playing., the DL main goal is eat up blockers on their way to the QB.

Remember Crawford can play inside until they get that sorted out and they get in shape and healthy.

Not sure I noticed Crawford playing inside or how many snaps he has had. But seems he is playing well.

We drafted Kelvin Pritchett in the first round that same year and traded him, but beyond that - you're right.

he and tank usually line-up side by side for their stunts

why with as much nickel and dime that gets played and most 1 Techs being 2 down players it is not a high draft resource position, it would be stupid to draft a 1T with a 1st round draft pick. I cannot think of the last pure 1T that was drafted in the 1st that made a difference.

1T is not important. 1T is not important. 1T is not important.

Of the 11 positions in this defensive scheme 1T is the least valuable.

The 1T's job is to sit cocked on the OC and hit him driving him back into the backfield.
Same job be it pass or run.

On obvious passing downs and 2 minute hurry up stuff he wont be on the field at all.

My understanding is that Irving and Crawford are exclusively 3 tech, while the ones in my OP are either exclusively 1 tech or can play both 1 tech and 3 tech. But not 100% sure - there may be one or two in my OP who mostly play 3 tech?

ideally they would like to have guy that can be a 1T when need be but ultimately they want most of their DT to work up field, a good analog would be Suh, he is big and strong enough to be a 1T but he does a lot of what 3T do.

Honestly, there isn't a lot of DTs worth the 1st round pick and fewer that make the impact many other positions will. Wasn't Donald our target back in his draft, but got scooped up we ended up with Zach.

I never cared to keep all of that straight in my head, 1T or 3T or which player is which.
To me, they are DT's. This is why I wanted, and still want Marinelli gone. Just get 2 DT's that do what they are supposed to do, pay the money if need be.

If they really though Price was higher on the depth chart, they'd go get him.

The story I read said they did try to get him, but the Browns offered to pay him $37,000 a week to stay on their PS and we weren’t willing to top that price. Same thing we did with Rico last year.
