I attended a dinner meeting with Lou Holtz as the after dinner speaker. After that hour I had a new appreciation for what coaches had to do to succeed. All the talent in the world will not win if the players are not playing for one another. It is the coaches responsibility to get that accomplished. Call it motivation perhaps, but that is likely not an accurate term. Think of the Baltimore team that won the recent superbowls. That coach clearly had them playing for one another.

Garrett has no concept on how to get that done because he is not a coach.

I'll define motivation by saying the 49ers. That's motivation. I want the Cowboys to play like that every week win or lose. I've watched that team play a few times this season and every player on that team looks like they are playing on a contract year. A good example is Randy Gregory. He's a great example of effort, not so much off the field. He can make some mistakes but I don't care because he would fly around like a man possessed. That's how the 49ers are playing right now.

The very fact that there are only 10 teams with longer Super Bowl appearance droughts and a mere 6 teams with longer droughts in Conference Championship appearances should provide plenty of motivation for a franchise that once upon a time was viewed as one of the leagues most dominating.
