So last night, all we hear about Trent Edwards is how "poised" he is.

During Jason Campbell's first few starts this year, we hear about how "poised" he is.

Is there a more idiotic adjective to describe QB play? Are they sitting there thinking..."Hmmmm....how do we describe this guy? He's not doing anything to win the game, but he's also not completely screwing his team over. I know! Poise...."

Basically poise means that you're young, and you're not completely terrible. But, it gives the talking heads something to fawn over for a young QB instead of focusing on the lights-out defense forcing the "poised" young QB to make all those tough 4 yard dump-offs to his backs.

Good stuff SP....

I like tough, gritty, in your face QB's that don't crumble even after throwing 5 picks and a fumble......

I had to get it out. Jaws continued to talk about how impressive and "poised" Edwards was, and I couldn't help but wonder if we were watching the same game. Then they were talking as though Edwards was making his push to replace Losman permanently, since noone on the Bills was tied to Losman....

Apparently, driving for one FG in 60 minutes is an impressive feat for a QB who hasn't won a game since the Eisenhower administration.

The guy was making his second start and did play poised under the circumstances.

He was taking what the defense would give him instead of forcing it like, A LOT of young QBs do including Young, Lienart, Losman, etc...have done.

Yeah Jaws sure was crushing hard on Edwards last night. "Bill Walsh liked the kid, he's in credable" or "I said after the game, it was the most impressive QB play from a first time starter since Tom Brady"... TOM BRADY!

The kid gets 3 points for his team, from little dinky passes and poor tackling by the Cowboys, and suddenly he's comparable to Tom Brady.

He looked mighty "poised" when Hatcher put the smack down on him!

Poise is one of those buzz words that everyone is using these days and I'm sick of hearing it....

I actually thought he was pretty poised out there. We had pretty decent pressure on him, with bodies and hands all around him, so close to a sack -- and he kept getting the ball out just in time. Yeah, maybe they were dumpoffs, but still, this was a rookie 3rd rounder playing his second game on a huge stage against a pretty good defense. I kept waiting for him to make a huge screwup and he never really did. (Until maybe the Newman pick.)

Don't get me wrong, though -- Jaws went WAY overboard in his manlove for the guy. He and the whole booth obviously got caught up in the home crowd atmosphere. It was like the Cards-Bears game last year where they were openly rooting for Leinart and the home underdog even though they weren't doing anything special.

But then it isn't exactly news that the MNF crew is absolutely putrid.

I liked Pasquarelli's description of the Bill's offense: horizontal.

Edwards directs one lethal horizontal offense.

I wouldn't take too seriously anything you heard from the announcers yesterday. Jaws was slurping the Bills the whole night, it was disgusting. You would think Trent Edwards was the second coming of Jesus, listening to him. The guy throws a short out for 4 yards, and Jaws praises it as the best play ever made on a football field.

I was pondering the same thing. If you are driving down a highway at night rapidly approaching a deer and he just stands there staring, is that deer poised?
