Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Albert Einstein

I think that applies in this case. Need to change something.

Realistically what do you do to try and turn season around?

So what do you do different? Do you bench the starts even? Do you bring in a new kicker, even for awhile? Do you cut ties with a coach or two. Do you trade someone away (not for someone - but trade away a Bradie James or a Newman or a Barber/Choice or a Kitna - veterans we can get low picks for?)

I'm guessing if the Giants game is a dud, something has got to give.

I'd be all for Jerry selling the team to a NFL equivalent of Nolan Ryan. That way we get a new owner, GM and HC.

Unfortunately there are very few men in the world that could even afford this team, and few of them would want to buy it. Jerry is here as owner and thats fine, just get us a GM.

Forgive me for having a dream for a moment.
Unfortunately he's a package deal. If Jerry ever did get desperate enough to hire a GM he'd just rail road him behind closed doors.

That's a dumb quote. If the running game doesn't work in the first half in a close game, is abandoning the run the sane move?

That's the problem with using generalized quotes to support complex systems like football strategy.

Our running game isn't doing as much as it should cause we don't have a good enough OL to open holes. It also the same reason why Romo not getting enough time to set and throw downfield; cause our Ol can't give him the time. Don't understand why this has to consistently be repeated. Back in the 90s we won SB because we had a really top quality OL which protected Aikman & opened holes for Emmitt Smith. Things started going down for our SB teams when the OL went south beginning 96, but was awful in 97. OL's go south real fast. Happened in the 90s and it happening again. As Jerry did in the 90s, so he has done now. OL players arn't sexy like Jerry wants. Besides he only wants to draft players in the first round who he believes can start or really help the help in their first year. OL usually take at least 1 year do learn the finer points of OL play in the NFL. Usually he sticks to same criteria for WRs, but fortunately Dez was the exception.

Assuming we have a draft in 2011 & as we all assume the Cowboys will have an early pick in each of the 7 rounds, will be interesting to see what Jerry does. No doubt he'll trade high picks away for many late picks & we will again fail to add the necessary quality players. BTW: Have seen 1-2 prelim 2011 draft players. Seems there 1-2 promising FS & CBs who probably available if we draft in top 12; same goes if we want an OT. OG & C go later. If we trade just 3-4 places lower in first round, we might be able pick up 1 additional 2nd rounder which would enable us to add a quality CB, OG/OC & FS. In 3rd round, we could probably get a good ILB; with another good needed player high in 4th round. Smart drafting & we could add at least 5 good young players who could help really turn it around quickly.

Above is all based on Jerry finally turning over the reigns to a good HC believes in descipline & accountability who also wants us to have a hard nose attitude, etc.

Head coach that pays attention to details and commands respects pretty darn simple. Anti Wade and no I never thought Bill was to tough on them

Einstein was no more a psychologist than he was a economist. Einstein was through and through a Marxist.

Insanity is essentially psychotic and psychosis is perceiving something that is not reality. While that may cause you to repeat actions, erratic behavior is the hallmark of psychosis.

Repeating actions is obsessive compulsive behavior.

I hate that quote.

Well why don't we just have a lecture on mental health, Dr. Fuzz!

For Example: Jerry Jones believing that he is a Football Guy, Wade Phillips thinking he is an accountable Head Coach or Jason Garrett percieving he will be the next Dallas Head Coach.

I agree 100%. We have changed, coaches, QBs, WRs and every thing under the sun but ONE thing has been consistently bad on this team and it is the offensive line. The game is won in the trenches, we have the talent on defense in the front 7 but on offense we are in the bottom 10 of offensive lines.

JG is consistently struggling to mask their weaknesses every time we play a team with a good front 7. Minnesota's front 7 completely dominated the LOS most of the game.

Season is done, no need to change jack now.

If something was going to be changed, it needed to happen during the bye week. Its too late now, lets just get this disaster of a season over with.

Sheesh, the quote was just a pre-cursor to discussion. And here I thought I was cranky about the season....

Actually, googling it, some people say it is Franklin's quote, and nobody can really prove if Einstein ever said it from what I read.....

But we digress:

The point I was making is, what changes can help etc.
I didn't SAY that if the running game isn't work, go away from the running game. Taken in it's correct context though the quote would suggest, trying a different running back or a different running play IMHO.

I totally agree on more attention to detail, stop the celebrating in the endzone, more accountability (benching of players), etc. That isn't being a "tough or mean" coach even, that is sports (not even football 101).

Today, I thought discussion on NFL Network and the NFL Network Coaching program was interesting. Mora and Lombardi and the ex-Ravens coach all said the same thing. What happens and is expected in practice on Wed-Fri carries through to the games. Attention to detail, repetition (specifically, kick coverage, etc) need to occur to help improve performance and limit penalties. Eventually, re-occuring offenders that consistently miss assignments or do penalties need to be substituted for other players.

Sounds simple. If Witten goes offside twice per game I guess you replace him with Bennett more. Jenkins with Scandrick. Sometimes you take step back to take a step forward I guess. Not sure it would work, but it would be trying something different.

Tough one.

3 excellent examples of insanity!

I thin kits time to see what depth we got on this team and display it for the next HC. I think its time to see what we got in the players and let all the coaches, except Sherman, know to dust off their resumes, same with scouting and set fire to the place. Let a new HC come in and bring in his guys and committ years to making this a solid foundation football team.
