Defragging my computer

I havent defragged the computer since my company gave me the laptop. After three blue screens in two weeks, I think it's time. I got to do better. :

I haven't used it in awhile so I don't know how their latest product preforms, but we used to use DisKeeper on all of our desktops at my previous employment.

It did a pretty good job without overburdening the PCs. (make sure you have enough memory of course)

Once you've defragmented it the first time, it keeps everything in order without having to ever do it again.

I'm afraid to use any product on my work laptop not sanctioned by the IT guys. I'll have to ask, because they're pretty strict about such things.

A fragmented hard drive does not cause blue screens. Slower hard drive performance, but not blue screens.

Back in the old Windows 3.1/Dos days I had to fix a hard that was 100% fragmented. That took a long time.

Your blue screens could be anything from overheating to some bad ram.
But a lack of defragmenting shouldnt cause the blus screens.

Honestly, I have no idea why I've been getting blue screens. These thinkpads they gave us suck. I figured I needed to give the laptop a tuneup anyway, so why not blame it on the blue screens... :

Blue screens can also be driver related, especially on new laptops related to video card drivers. I would look at the optional updates in the windows to see if there are any hardware driver updates.

Also your IT department should be able to look at your system logs to see what error was thrown in relation to the blue screen.

I would be curious to see how a disk that fragmented looks after defrag.

Probably not too good.
