Dwight Freeny and a guard imo. What do you think? Is it more than two, less than two, etc etc

If we stay in a 3-4, Freeney would be wasted here. And while a guard would be nice, it's not the missing piece to the puzzle.

I don't agree with Deion here. I don't think the Cowboys are two guys away. I think they're an offensive line (as a whole) away. If you give the Cowboys a top-tier line, the Cowboys are in the hunt and could have been playing in February, in my opinion.

So you're saying Flozell (Pro Bowler), Marc Columbo and Kyle Kosier (arguably our two best linemen last year), and Andre Gurode (at least a step up from Al Johnson) are crap?

If you add a guard to replace Rivera, I think that will make our line a top-tier line.

I agree, Freeney is "too small" to play DE in the 3-4.

As for an offensive line (as a whole), that can go for every team in the league.

I don't think Sanders is far off.

The defense is ALOT better than it showed.....ALOT better. If it stays patient with the 3-4 and adds someone opposite DWare....it will be among the best.

The offense does need someone to replace Rivera...but we are talking about the fourth best attack in the NFL and I am going to predict right now Jones rushes for 1400 yds if healthy next season.

He is talking about a Head Coach and a Defensive Coordinator.

Really though... he means 1 OL and 1 pass rusher away.

But I wouldnt be surprised if he named himself as 1/2.

Flo's Pro Bowl bid was a joke. He was absolutely punked this season. He looked slow, routinely found himself out of position and was out-muscled more often than ever. And the fact that we're complimenting servicemen like Columbo and Kosier is a true tribute to how ordinarily bad the line was. Columbo was an improvement on Pettiti, who was probably the worst attempt at a replacement for Erik Williams... ever. Shining praise that he improved upon that, eh?

I was pleased with the play of Gurode (for half the season), Kosier (who I expected absolutely nothing out of) and Columbo (same goes for him). We all set the bar almost lower than humanly possible before the year. So now that they didn't meet those amazing standards, we're talking about how we're one lineman away? Bollocks.

Don't agree. Not one bit.

Freeney could play WOLB in a 3-4 and Ware would move over to the SOLB spot. Freeney is five times the athlete that Greg Ellis is and ran a 4.4 as a rookie. Not that I think Freeney would want to make this move or that Indy would even let him see free agency. Thats a pipe dream. But Freeney definitely could fit in a 3-4.

Freeney and DWare would be unstoppable in the 3-4.

Pettiti nor Columbo were ever "replacements for Erik Williams." He's not coming back and while he was a heck of a talent, we can't hope to have a player of that caliber at every position, especially right tackle. Columbo is one of the best tackles on the free agent market right now and he actually solidified a position the boys have been trying to solidfy for quite a long time.

They did meet the "lower than humanly possible" bar and surpassed it. The best thing for an offensive line is continuity and the longer these players are together the better they will be. Granted, I'm saying we need a guard but from center to left tackle, those guys actually finally have some chemistry that the boys should maintain.

As for Columbo, he's already proven that he can play next to whoever at guard. Flozell has done it for the first time. Continually struggling when not next to Larry Allen finally subsided next to Kosier. While Flozell to the Pro Bowl is a joke (you are correct in that) his performance this year was not. The players voted to give him the team's courage award for his play this year so they must have known that his injury was more serious then the press let on. To play serviceably this year without the full use of his body will make next year's Flozell even better.

You have got to be joking. Freeney and Ware at OLB would wreak havoc on QBs. Freeney also has the speed and athletic ability to play out in coverage too (he has the athletic ability and speed to be better in coverage then Ware, and Ware is pretty good for an OLB).

I agree. It's a good thing he'd be coming here to play OLB (in the 3-4), not DE.

Of course he won't be coming here so it's a moot point.

I think this team is zero players away. They clearly had the talent to win the whole thing this year. If everyone stays healthy next year and the coaching scheme is a bit more aggressive, this team will complete no matter what.

As far as off-season additions, if Turner is here the team will need a more legitimate full back, we'll need more depth on the offensive line, a backup quarterback (Bledsoe is gone), and some young wide receivers who can step in when our 30-something wide outs ride off into the sunset.
