Deja Vu

After watching last night's game, it seems like Deja Vu with the exception that it was more related to the offensive line. Back in 2012 when we played the Raiders, I knew we were in deep trouble with our offensive line. Romo was ambushed as soon as he dropped back to pass. Witten sustained a lacerated spleen that game.

Fast forward to last night. I know that we didn't have everyone out there for our defense. But I can't help to have the same feeling I did two years ago when I knew that we were going to be in for a long season with our offensive line. Our depth looks awful.

Unfortunately, the Cowboys can't afford to just sit back and let things play themselves out like they did two years ago. Obviously, there probably isn't a lot of quality DT's available in FA. I just feel that a more agressive approach is needed now. Is there a trade possibility available? Suh is rumbling over his contact, is there a chance that Detroit thinks about a trade? I don't know, I'm just wondering if the Cowboys feel the same sense of urgency?

If they play for the playoffs in week 17, thats fine with me.

They should. Garrett and Marinelli should. Since their future employment might be on the line. But somehow I doubt Jerry has a sense of urgency.

I would trade for Suh only if it made them Super Bowl contenders. That's not going to happen, so just focus on developing talent and peaking next year. They've finally cleaned up the age and cap issues on the roster. They need to develop a few players this season and then finish out the roster in free agency next year. Unlike past years, they shouldn't be losing anybody to age or as cap casualties.

The time to upgrade significantly has passed. All that's left on the market are players equal to what we already have. Sadly, you're right: this is very reminiscent to that OL. Garrett has jettisoned all our veterans and gone with a ragtag group of journeymen and unheralded rookies. Similar to when we cut Gurode to give the almighty Costa the position.

If Garrett had a couple years, I think Jerry would trade for help. However, the writing is in the wall and Jerry knows as well as anyone that you can really benefit (from a marketing perspective) from a high draft pick and a new coach. My theory is that he's making Garrett work harder to prove himself, so that he either gets a coach who made a bunch of nobodies into a success story or he gets a brand new face to stir up some enthusiasm amongst the fans

Over-react much? I don't know which is worse, your over-reacting or your proposed solution to your over-reacting. And, just, what exactly do you propose trading to Detroit for Suh? Byrd, Boyd, and Heath ain't getting a trade done for Suh. I'm guessing Detroit would take no less than Dez Bryant. Or Detroit would want our 2015 1st and more.

I don't want Suh on this team period. He is way over-rated. And I don't want to be in cap-hell anymore. I wouldn't part with any future draft picks.

They say and do a lot of dumb things there is no debate about that fact. But they aren't so dumb to not be constantly looking at any possibility of improving the roster. If the chance comes along to get a FA they will bring him in for a workout. But I don't think there is much of a chance of Jerry pulling off a trade for a DL starter.

Can blame Jerry for this one... At that point they both sucked... gurode was just more expensive and older..

Yes, I can blame him since he's the GM and in charge of all things Cowboys. Who else is to blame? Gene?

They are currently 2.2 mill OVER the projected cap of 140 mill for next year. They have Romo's contract that is eating up 27mill. Cutting Carr only saves them about 500,000. Free and Melton are the only two contracts that they can get some cap relief from, but they'd have to find adequate replacements.

They absolutely should not restructure Romo's contract. Period. It's time to pay the piper. Next year will be a mess.

They have 35M of space in 2016. They'll just push some money from 2015 to 2016.

Romo gets the money if he plays in 2015 regardless of whether they restructure him or not.

at 8-7 again?

sooner or later the odds are Garrett has to win one of those play in games right?

I'd say sooner or later there won't be a play-in game at 8-7.

Garrett is lucky he has had his team in "contention" considering just about any other division would have been lost well before week 17.

BS. It was said plainly that if Gurode had taken the pay cut he would have remained the starter.

Big NO to Suh. In addition to the cap hit we cannot afford, no way do you pay any DT that kind of money. And that is beside all the penalties he would get once he became a Cowboy.

Yeah, and in 2023 they have 176 mill. Point is, many players are not under contract through 2016. No Dez, Claiborne, Carter, Crawford, Bernadeau, Leary, Wilbur, Weeden. You know, like a lot of guys that will have to be replaced or paid.

And for Romo, seriously? You want to restructure and guarantee more of that contract? Pushing more dead money into the future. Getting back into the cap hell we were in. Totally ignoring how every other team in the NFL does things? Good for you.

They may be able to pick up a defensive lineman after the final roster cuts to 53, but its not like there will be any studs being cut.
