Delmas In Demand

The guy who might be the first safety drafted next month will be making plenty of trips between now and then. Per a league source, Louis Delmas of Western Michigan has visits scheduled with the Ravens, Falcons, Jets, Saints, Broncos, Dolphins, Browns, Patriots, and Cowboys.

Delmas also will conduct private workouts for the Browns, Eagles, and Dolphins.

He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds at the Combine. At his March 11 Pro Day workout, Delmas focused on position drills, resting on his Combine numbers.

A total of 21 teams attended the Western Michigan session, with Delmas being the main attraction.

Is his skill set that special? I'm wondering if he's about to get "over drafted". He's a talent, but I'm reading that other Safeties are not far behind in terms of talent.

He might well be the best fit for a team that wants a safety who can cover but will not struggle to tackle.

He has some ball skills, some coverage skills and is a smart guy.

To me he is the best solution for the Cowboys.

What distinguishes him from the others is leadership. He is supposed to be outstanding in that regard.

I like Delmas, but not comfortable with the fact that if we draft him, we'd have to move Hamlin to SS

The Cowboys use a system that has two interchangeable safeties.

They do not have a strong and a weak safety parlance. They want interchangeable safeties.

This comes directly from the Cowboys coaches.

Wow this is just my luck!! This happens every year..ha..I slurp a guy early then he becomes completely out of reach..The Falcons,Broncos,Dolphins,Browns and Pats all pick TWICE before we do..there is absolutley no way he gets by those teams the second time around..

And Bob, stop thinking about the protypical SS and FS..There isn't a set position between those two..I want my safeties to cover! Delmas isn't that much of a slouch at tackling either..We'd have the best secondary in the league with Delmas..WE NEED TO MOVE UP TO THE BROWNS 2ND ROUNDER!

We have no shot at Delmas, but the Cowboys seem to have a lot of interest in Micheal Hamlin.

yeah, but the strong safety still needs to be active in run support too

Hamlin and Delmas aren't strong run-support safeties

Yhea, I've noticed that as well.

They are probably targeting him around the 4th round.

I'm thinking that we're not going Safety in Round 2 or maybe even Round 3.

I think the staff is o.k. with Hamlin and Sensabaugh. What they want is some depth behind the guys and someone to challenge for Sensabaugh's spot in 2010.

We'd have the best secondary in the league hands down with Delmas..seriously. I have never said that about any rookie but this guy is exaclty what I've been looking for the Cowboys for about 5 years now..

Newman and Jenkins both on islands with Scandrick in the slot..Hamlin more up in the box and Delmas playing centerfield safety and covering the Tight End..That allows Ware,Bradie and Spencer to all blitz..it would reak utter chaos..not to mention Sensabaugh mixed in as well for depth.

Well, if we don't get Delmas (and I think he'll be long gone by 51), what about R Johnson from Alabama in the 3rd or McBath in the 4th? They should also be good centerfield types.

Hamlin also has a lot of picks, though he projects more as a SS type, IMO.

LeRon McClain is still running. lol

Willis Magahee's season long highlight... lol

I'd rather have Chip Vaughn. He's faster, bigger, played in the ACC, has plenty of range to play the single, high safety, and he is a better player in space from what I'm reading. Plus, (importantly) he has more upside and isn't reckless with his head. Vaughn is excellent against the run. His 4.42 speed can matchup with TEs or runningbacks.

How Vaughn is going under the radar on this board is a head scratcher.

Plus, Vaughn would be a great special teams player. He would add much needed speed to special teams.

There's a reason...he's garbage.

Ya I really like Johnson and Mcbath alot also.

Delmas,Johnson and Mcbath are the only safeties with the best value..I say value because Chung in the 6th would be good value because that's what he's worth.

Going into last season Hamlin had a lot of hype behind him. He could be a solid pickup after his played sliped this year.

I know he's good, but just looking at him at the combine, he looked awfully small-boned, like he'll have a very hard time getting any bigger. It's great he's such a willing hitter, but I'm a little afraid he's going to blow himself up.
