Currently on pace for 2144 yards. Amazing, considering he was considered a guy who couldn't stay healthy.

Has the most 20+ yard runs in the league

Has more than twice as many yards as Shady McCoy. (who's also averaging only 2.9 yards a carry).

Tap the brakes a bit. We are only 5 games into the season and there is a long way to go. He has been excellent and is one of the best all-around backs in the league. Tough, good hands, good blocker and plays with a chip on his shoulder. Like you say, he needs to stay healthy.

I think he has a real shot if he can stay on the field. We will see.

I don't understand why so many posters are so quick to let this guy walk. He broke the record for TDs at OK with one of the richest traditions in college sports. This team is different with him on the field. Dunbar and Randle couldn't carry his jock.

Let's get him resigned now.

Nobody wants him gone, they just don't want to break the bank for him. There's a difference between wanting to let him walk and not wanting to give him a large contract, which he might ask for

Hey, I'm a Sooners fan. I'm aware of their history and Murray's. I just don't think he's a special running back. He's very versatile. He's a complete back. But he's not special. If this was 20 years ago, sure. Resign him. In today's NFL, I don't see the value in it.

The Cowboys hit walk off grand slam home runs with three 1st round picks along the line. The luxury in that is it should allow you a wide range of running backs capable of performing behind that line. I don't think you maximize that benefit by paying big long term dollars to a veteran with durability issues.

Extend Travis Frederick. Begin the framework on Zack Martin's next contract. Don't overreact to the RB benefitting from their play. The league is filled with backs capable of doing the same with this offensive line and the way they're playing right now.

The salary cap forces you into these kinds of decisions. You have to be very selective on who gets a big 2nd contract. Is that player replaceable? How easily? With DeMarco, I think those answers are yes and easier than losing one of those offensive linemen down the road.

There is no one else on our roster that is the complete package like Murray. The guy is an elite back without a doubt and can do it all.

I think the importance of the RB in the NFL is making a comeback and whenever this franchise has had Super Bowl winning teams they had an elite back every time. Murray is the next in line.

Just hope a deal can be reached I think Murray is the perfect fit for the Cowboys, yes OL is a big factor but I see the yards after contact he is making that is the difference of getting the 1st down and more instead of punting. His ability to block and make the catches out of the back field is big for this offense.

I think you're right... I'm just not sure you're right.

I would have to see another RB get a few 25 carry games behind the OL. I'm thinking Ryan Williams would do very well. Randle too. I don't think they'd be as good in blitz pickup, but assuming they can read the blocks as well as Murray (and I'm not sure they can), there are plenty of holes there to take advantage of.

All I know is even when he doesn't he contact until the second level, he makes a play at that point. Seldom does the pile move back, and if you notice, even with several defenders standing him up, he maintains the pile until help comes in most situations.

But what is remarkable for me is his ability to wiggle and weave in traffic, showing a great deal of patience as a hole opens, or threading between openings. He has a burst that is not top of the line, but can separate.

And he is not shy of contact.

I read these comments trying to diminish his ability, but he just faced the best defense in the game and hung a buck forty on them. I keep hearing about Randall, and do believe Murray needs to be given a rest to save him for the cold days of december.

But this is a featured back and not one in the crowd. The offensive line gets him a hole. What he does after that is Murray.

I love Murray, but don't break the bank for him.

Health and fumbles are still an issue.

A humbled AP comes to Jerry after the season and offers to play for 3 yrs/15 mill do you take it?

*hypothetical but I really believe this a realistic scenario.*
