Four factors that will allow DeMarcus Ware to become DPOY:
1. An improved secondary. We've all heard the expression, "cover sack". We will hear it a lot this year, I think. With Adam Jones & Mike Jenkins basically replacing Jaques Reeves & Nate Jones, and speedy Orlando Scandrick added to the mix, the secondary will be immensely improved over last season. During passing situations, the foursome of Terrence Newman, Anthony Henry, Jones, & Jenkins will give the team one of the best in the league. Add to that the probability of the defense going more to "man" or "press" coverage, and opposing QBs will be forced to hold the ball longer.
2. The emergence of Anthony Spencer as Ware's main counterpart. Once Greg Ellis came back from being injured last year, he took his ROLB position back form Spencer with authority. So much so, that he was awarded "Comeback player of the year" in the NFL. Even so, this year Spencer will see much more action. With a quick first step almost rivalling Wares', Spencer will take some of the heat off of DW.
3. The change in thinking of NFL refs. In a TC press conference the other day, Wade Phillips mentioned that Ware had three sacks and three big plays where he was called offsides and wasn't offsides. Then he said, "Not that it will help us now". I think it will. Due to his ridiculous quickness, Ware appears offsides because he's so much further upfield than his teammates. As Phillips did mention later, the hope is that refs will begin to make allowances for DWare's sic abilities (my interpretation), & give him the benefit of the doubt. After admitting to those blunders last season, I have a feeling they will.
4. An improved offense. I know, it's hard to think it can get any better, but it will. First, we have Felix Jones opposite the Barbarian. I hate to be hurtful, but I have to agree with Deion Sanders' assessment of Julius Jones during a game in Atlanta in late 2006. Sanders said during a broadcast, (Julius Jones looks like he's looking for a place to fall down). He won't ever have to say that about FELIX Jones. F. Jones is fresher, quicker, and much stronger for his size than Julius was. He had the second highest per carry average than any other RB in the History of College Football! Doing that while playing second fiddle to Darren McFadden tells me all I need to know about the young man. With a much more athletic Martellus Bennett taking over the backup TE spot, we will see much more diversity from that position. With Terry Glenn gone, Patrick Crayton will show up big this year, along w/ Sam Hurd, Miles Austin, and Isaiah Stanback. With the offense scoring like a pinball machine, opponents will be forced to abandon the run, allowing DWare & others to pin their ears back.
Finally, he can cut loose with abandon and cause even more problems for Cowboys' opponenets. All of these factors IMHO will lead to a break-out year for Ware, and make him DPOY in the NFL. This can't help but bring the Cowboys much closer to their 6th Lombardi trophy.
