USA Football and the NFL Players Association unveiled its first All-Fundamentals team Thursday and outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware was named to the squad for his pass rush/bull rush ability.
The team recognizes a player from all 32 teams for different fundamentals. With the honor Ware will designate a youth or high school football program as the recipient of a $1,500 equipment grant from USA Football.
You can see the team, which was picked by a six-person committeee of former players, coaches and personnel men, at www.AllFundamentalsTeam.com.
"I usually don't have much to say but Coach Wade [Phillips] was talking about being fundamental and going back to the fundamentals in one of our meetings and saying that's the way you win games, eliminating some of the small mistakes we have," Ware said. "Now I get this All-Fundamental award and like I told him, 'I guess I've been fundamental the whole time.' But it's a really good thing to be recognized for this and for on the field purposes but also off the field purposes and being a role model for the kids.

Marion Barber the starter and finisher

Since rushing for 124 yards in Week 2 against the New York Giants, Marion Barber has had more than 60 yards rushing in just two of his last nine games. He had 99 yards on 20 carries vs. Washington and 61 yards on 14 carries against Oakland on Thanksgiving.
But there seems to be some clamoring for Barber to return to his closer's role he had in his first three seasons and let either Felix Jones or Tashard Choice to start. Not going to happen, according to Wade Phillips.
"Marion's strong at the first of the game and at the last of the game that's why you substitute for him during the game," Phillips said. "If you're just starting the first of the game and playing through the game and not play anybody else he would wear down a little bit but he's able to carry the load. We want the power guy early in the game to start out to physically attack the other team, I think, and you want the same thing at the end of the game. Plus, he's our best back. I think you want your best players to be out there to start the game and finish."
In the last two games, however, it seems as if Barber has left some yards on the field. Of the 61 yards he had vs. the Raiders, 32 came on one carry. Against the Giants there wasn't much room to run a lot but when there appeared to be some cracks Barber didn't hit them.
Barber needs to average 83 yards a game over the final four weeks to eclipse 1,000 yards for the first time in his career.
Does he make it?
