Former Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas, 33, found dead in his home, police say

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Former Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, whose quiet demeanor belied a burning desire to achieve what he routinely called "everyday greatness,'' has died at age 33, according to police.

Roswell, Georgia, police said Thursday night that Thomas was found dead in his home. Preliminary reports, according to the police, indicated Thomas' death might have resulted from a medical issue.

The Broncos released a statement early Friday, mourning the loss of "an incredible player and a special person."

"We are devastated and completely heartbroken by the sudden, tragic passing of Demaryius Thomas," the Broncos said in a statement early Friday. "D.T. was beloved by our entire organization, his teammates and coaches, and our fans. Recently retiring as a Bronco, we were very much looking forward to celebrating Demaryius for years to come as one of the greatest players in franchise history."

Seizures. Sometimes I question why the players are paid so much. And this answers that question as life is priceless.

I've watched almost every episode of Dr G on youtube and she has seen worse damage to brains from far less hits and head shocks than NFL players take. I think every player should have a brain scan after every season or even at the half way point. Although damage to the brain would not always be evident unless an autopsy is formed , it could find damage in some cases.

High tech helmets can't prevent the shaking the brain takes during a high impact hit to the head. And it the shaking around of the brain in the skull that causes a lot of damage that doesn't show up on scans than can lead to seizures.

RIP great man.

I've got some friends who have some seizure issues. I can say that, my understanding, is that seizures can also be genetic. Just incredibly sad to hear about what happened.

Ugh, this really sucks. He was the last great GT WR and had a very good NFL career.

33 years old, far too young. Curious if he was on any anti-seizure meds if this had been a frequent thing.

Just terrible.

Thomas’ cousin, LaTonya Bonseigneur, told the AP that he had been suffering seizures for over a year and the family believes he had one while he was showering. A friend was unable to get in touch with Thomas and sent over the receiver’s driver, who found him in the shower, according to Bonseigneur.

That's sad. You can tell how respected he was in Denver.

Sounds like there were complications, either choking or hitting his head, having it in the shower?
