Denver should be a good test

It should be interesting to see our new OL against Denver.

They have a stable of very good looking pass rushers. Dumervill (however you spell it) and Von Miller. Their interior DL, with the addition of Bunkley, looks pretty strong.

I'll be watching Smith closely. He goes against Ware and Spencer every day. Now, we'll see how he does against other good pass rushers.

Their secondary has a couple of nice players as well.

Their OL isn't great, but it's strong enough to give our D a nice test. I think their receivers are a nice test as well.

Should be fun.

I would hope one of the worst teams in the league wouldn't be that good of a test.

In today's NFL there just isn't much that separates best from worst
imho

I would not bank on that. Coaches have said there is a real possibility that starter will go longer in this year’s pre season given the limited time they have had to work with them this year.

i doubt either team shows much beyond kids.
many of the vets simply wont play at all.

but it is football and i am (illogically) excited about it all the same.

still just a preseason game and it will take us a while to bring the young guys along and for the D to learn the new schemes (though we won't show it all in the preseason)

I think the starting o-line should play at least the first half. At least Costa, Arkin, and Smith do. In my opinion, barring major injuries at the skill positions, these three guys are the key to the entire season.

Younger, less expereinced starters usually do play longer. Hopefully that's the case against Denver. Even if Dallas' young starters go againse second-teamers it would still be good to see howw they fare.

If they do well againsr second teamers then coaches can conclude that they're on track; but if they get beaten by backups then it tells the coaches who's not ready to start. At lease then coaches will know where they need to supplement the roster thruogh free agency.

Let'e remeber that preseason games are less about practicing and more about auditioning.

That may be the case then again no off season, No 2 a days I think this is not going to be a normal pre season around the NFL.

Even if the starters play a series or two, I still think we'll get to see Smith go up against Von Miller and Elvis Dumervill a few times.

It won't be much, but it'll be a good, quick test for him.

Anyone heard any news on Miller? I was curious as to how he has been doing in Denver's training camps.

The reason I like it, the big question for Denver is who is the #2 QB?

So I'd imagine Tebow plays one quarter. Same with Brady Quinn.

Those are pretty good targets for our younger players to get some PT against.

Prediction: Butler has 2 sacks, 1 FF. And Akwasi with a pick 6.

I want to see our offensive line take on Von Miller that's for sure. Miller might be a rook but he's the real deal.

My expectation of pre season is pretty much the same every year. I want to see 1st unit offense and defense out play the other teams.

Once you get into 2nd and 3rd string it is no longer viewing as a team but grading individuals.

Face it the entire 2nd team will never been on the field as a unit during the regular season.

Final score means nothing but how 1st unit does means quite a bit

I want the 1st unit to focus on staying healthy.

I want them healthy as well but I want them to put the work in so that their will not be a collapse like we saw last year.

I'm sorry but since when is a preseason game a good test? For guys looking to make the team maybe.

I guess we're all starved for some football.

It is a good test it is not the final test but a good one none the less. Guys going out and executing in live action even if it is base packages helps coaches see where their team is and what they need to focus on as they try to get their team ready for reg season

It's live action in a game situation.

Right now, they're practicing in a controlled environment.

If Smith is beaten in practice.....well, he lines up and does it again.

If he's beaten Thursday, he'll be picking Romo off the ground.
