I personally thought the defense was outstanding last year when you factor in all of the injuries.

Rob Ryan did a better job than a lot of people could have and got used as a scapegoat for the offense looking disorganized and poorly coached.

With that said I like the defensive coaches better this year and the book is still out on the Offense.

I think they finally may bring more tempo to the offense. Something myself and many others were screaming for all last season.

Good read Hos
Hopefully better coaching on offense and defense and the influx of talent along with better discipline and consistency will result in a better year for us

On the one hand, Rob did a pretty fair job with the hand he was dealt. That said, there were just as many instances of the defense looking disorganized. Delay of game penalties. Too many players on the field. Players, in general, just not seeming to know what to do. And that godawful penalty he got for going on the field that he wasn't as much of a scapegoat as you'd like to think he was.

I think he would've done a pretty good job had he been allowed to stay, but I definitely can see why the Cowboys moved on.

I agree that the defense looked a little disorganized at times but that is to be expected with all the injuries.

I just feel like the offense being sloppy is a reoccuring thing. We consistently looked unprepared early in games and didn't get anything going on offense until Romo started improvising outside of what Garrett liked to do.

Hopefully we'll up the tempo of the offense and come out more aggressive instead of spending a quarter and a half shooting ourselves in the foot within Garrett's scheme and thinking we are the 90's Cowboys and that we're just going to out athlete teams with simple strategies.

Rob Ryan's defense couldn't generate sufficient (any) turnovers before or after the injuries.

They also look confused more often that not (again before and after the rash of injuries).

Take the above and add the fact he had a big mouth meant he wasn’t going to be around for very long.

I don't disagree with any of that but if we were as harsh on Garrett as we were with Ryan then Garrett would've been out a long time ago.

Defensive guys keep getting canned but the offensive guys keep getting more chances.

It's hard to play defense in this league with all of the rules so I don't expect a lot out of any unit. I expect the offense to look a lot better than it has.

I know your no fan of Garrett's so I don't plan to debate your opinion re: his scheme and whatnot.

Just sticking to my Rob Ryan opinion and note that he was no scapegoat. He made his fair share of mess-ups so that while it wasn't a no-brainer to can him, even before all the injuries occurred. I can see the logic behind letting him go. The proof will be in how the defense responds to the simplified scheme...when injuries start happening.

I buy most of that and I do think we upgraded our defensive coaches.

I think Garrett’s offense has a better track record that Ryan’s defense so I’m not so sure about “been out a long time ago”.

I don’t say the offense was perfect by any means; however I think Garrett’s main problem was trying to be OC and HC.

Let’s see how he gets on with just the HC duties.

I believe Garrett is going to turn out to be a better HC then a OC (still needs to be proven, but my belief at this time).

Completely agree. Game management has been his biggest weakness IMO.

I'll say it the same way I say it every year, we'll see.

I am overwhelmed by the sheer guts it takes to go out on a limb like that. Wow! if my knees weren't awful I'd genuflect.
