Depth Chart updated

Really hope Bo Scarborough makes the team. Maybe they keep 3 RBs + Tavon but then does that mean they keep 6 wide receivers (not including Tavon, but that would be only if Lance Lenoir makes the team.) But the only way I see 4 TEs making the team is if Bo or Lenoir or someone else doesn't make it. It'd be a shame if Rico doesn't make the roster.

Bo and Rico both need to impress the staff a lot over the rest of TC if they're to win roster spots. Both do have their talents, though.

I find this thread to be great comedy.

People look at that list and believe it actually means something.

The only thing I found really interesting were the return men. Now, it might be that Dallas just threw darts at a board in that regard, but I didn't know Lewis and Thomas might be considerations there.

We've seen Austin back returning punts in camp, and I figured Thompson was an option on kick returns, which might still end up being the case.

Lenoir as a punt returner is not surprising, but the rest kind of are, for me anyway. ... We'll see how it shakes out.

Ah, this from DC.com explains it:

No, it’s not a typo to see Tavon Austin nowhere to be found. This position was listed according to the guys likely to field punts in the game.

“Yeah, I don’t think you’ll be seeing Tavon out there in the preseason – maybe one or two but not many,” special teams coordinator Keith O’Quinn said. “He’s got a pretty good body of work out there. I don’t think we need to see him right now.”

Austin has three career touchdowns from punt returns, including a 98-yarder as a rookie in 2013 with the Rams.

Expect that in the regular season but in the meantime, the Cowboys will likely give receiver Lance Lenoir and cornerback Duke Thomas will get some returns, along with cornerback Jourdan Lewis.

At kickoff return, Deonte Thompson isn’t expected to play but would be the first option. Lewis, Thomas and running back Darius Jackson should get some work for this first game.

Surprised we haven't heard much on Covington...former QB turned lb with the measurables..was hoping he could put some heat on Wilson...still early though

Interesting that we brought in two former college QB's that turned to LB's to end their collegiate careers.

Chris C and Joel Lanning.

That had to get approved last year by the NFL when the official switch from WR to RB last year. Not something you will typically see.

Reggie Bush really wanted #5 coming out of Southern Cal but the league denied him. I wonder if he would have been listed at QB, P or K for a year while wearing #5 and then moved to RB if the league would have allowed him to keep the number.

Montgomery occasionally lined up at RB his rookie year while being a WR primarily until he made his full move to RB due to injury. I’m surprised they let him keep it.

Assuming Austin makes it as a WR, wow, what a scramble for that 6th WR spot

Battling for last WR spot

Thompson
Lenoir
Brown
Juene
Cannon
McKay
Murdoch

So on offense we basically just lost Dez Bryant and Jason Witten and replaced them with Allen Hurns and Swaim...

Why does this not feel like a meaningful upgrade?

What did you expect to see on a depth chart?

Gallup will start over TWill and Maliek Collins will be the 1T starter for the opening game.

Ugh. I hope they don't make the mistake of putting Collins at 1-tech again this year.

We usually only keep 4 defensive tackles but sometimes we go long with 5.

Excluding Irving, I think that will ultimately give us

Collins
Ward
Woods
Jones
Price

When Irving returns after 4 games, I think you see someone cut from the list. The obvious choice would be Woods. If you like Woods and maybe you want to stash him on your PS, which is why he is so low on the depth chart, maybe you don't go long at defensive tackle after all.

I think we may go short at defensive end with 5 rather than 6.

My biggest surprise is that they aren't putting Austin out there as a returner.

I agree with those 5 defensive tackles as it stands today, but I think they might be forced to go with 11 defensive linemen total rather than keeping just 5 defensive ends. Too much talent there I think to let someone go.

The biggest surprise to me is Chaz Green rallying to be awarded a 2nd team depth spot.

Of course, it may well be just a matter of time before his body betrays that achievement.

Now there's one that I put 0 stock in.

Unless I missed someone's reply, how is OL Bryce Johnson still on the depth chart after being cut a few days ago?

I think that there are several names that have very little chance to stick other than the practice squad.

From Juene down, I see very little chance to earn a spot. And even Brown is a practice squad candidate at this point I think.

I'm more curious as to whether the performances of Thompson and Lenoir might force the team to keep 7 receivers.

It's as if everyone has amnesia and doesn't know that the PR department puts these together and not the coaching staff.

Thank you, sir. I totally missed it. Reading glasses only work if I use them lol

I thought maybe you had just skimmed past it. Trust me, I know about reading glasses. It sucks getting old.

Some things just stay the same, like the DC website being unable, at times, to keep their roster updated or accurate. They don't have OL Dustin Stanton listed on the roster, and Jordan Chunn is listed twice as a veteran - first as a 4 year vet, and then again as a 7 year vet. I understand that uniform numbers aren't given a lot of thought until game time, but Jeeze, get it together!
