Depth doesn't mean much if the starters aren't good

To no surprise, the Dallas Forbes Cowboys are signing a bunch of rotational guys. Which one of these guys is going to make any significant difference? How about we overpay for good players instead of journeymen for once?

I think the front office considers most of these are rotational or backup signings, particularly the offensive lineman and two defensive linemen. They probably would tell you that they have their primary DLs (Kneeland, Odighizuwa, Mazi, Parsons and maybe even Williams) and OLs, so they needed depth/contributors.

The only position we've filled so far where we absolutely needed a starter is running back. We've gone cheap to do that, but it is pretty likely that we will draft a back fairly early.

I would have gone after free agents who can upgrade positions, but that's not what this front office does in free agency.

We need FULL BLOWN starters that have been solid for atleast 3-4 years and at NUMEROUS positions

They signed two former #1 picks and a former #2 pick so the players have talent.

They just haven't done as much as they probably should have. In most cases, injury was a issue.

The Cowboys had some success fixing broken 1st rounders before. Malik Hooker turned his career around and if just one of these guys can do the same it may be worth it.

Besides, one way to prevent expensive free agents is to make your guys better. If these new Cowboys can at least provide some competition then there is no better incentive to improve.

It’s a great strategy, isn’t it @plasticman. I mean it’s worked so well over the past three decades.

Habitually rewarding players on descending trajectories with jaw-dropping golden parachutes. Conducting what has become an annual bloodletting where valuable FAs walk, with an ownership wink to a million saved here & there by subbing-in washed guys.

It's high time we ignorant groundlings fall to our knees to acknowledge that the Joneses are just smarter than everyone else. It is we who are dull for not understanding & appreciating the obvious business genius they've deigned to splay before us for thirty years. Last year the Cowboys were absolutely destroyed by injuries throughout the roster.

Lack of depth lowers the floor. It increases risk of worst outcomes.

People like to pretend that success is had from luck. There is no emerging market. There is no supply market to dominate like a Rockefeller or a Gates to get rich by leveraging circumstance.

It is idiocy to plan on that.

Instead when you don't have an unfair advantage, you need to have hard work, and dedication, all hands on deck working towards to common goal, and the ability to do so intelligently.

Success will manifest after a series of incremental changes not lucking into the right circumstance. Improving depth is one of the steps.

Now given this, do you think that I meant that this was a magic bullet that would fix everything all at once? Seems you are still hoping for a Rockefeller.

It's really up to the players, they have physical attributes or they wouldn't be 1st and 2nd round picks. They know their careers didn't start out the way they wanted and time is running out.

You realize taht this is still the first week of free agency?

When was the last time you remember the Cowboys signing any outside free agent in week 1? They signed like 6.

I can understand no confidence. The Joneses deserve none but if you think this is business as usual you have no idea what has been going on the last dozen years or so.
