Everybody from Broaddus to Media Scout guys are down on him, they think he is a LDE only.I really dont think it matters though,he can play LDE for us .Remember people were saying the same for Bosa last year.If he drops into the 20s then i would absolutely consider a trade up.

People are down on Barnett because he's not flashy and super "quick twitch." I see a guy that may not have elite speed, but does pretty much everything else well. His hand technique to disengage is probably better than anyone in this class at DE.

Agreed.

You don't "luck" into or accidentally register 52 TFL and 33 sacks (in three seasons) in the SEC.

He's also a legit DE prospect, not a 230 lbs gloriefied edge rusher who's sole job is rushing the QB. He's a complete player.

If he was a one year wonder I'd give pause to the criticism, but he's one of the few rare players coming out that have actually proven their talent longitudinally in arguably the toughest conference in college football.

I keep hearing how good his snap anticipation is, which can help overcome the fact that he's not quick twitch.

He can be deceptively fast sometimes -- he's covering more ground than it looks like but he's not a "sudden" movement so it doesn't necessary appear fast. That said, I don't think there's any question he has the speed to get to the QB.

I'm a huge fan of Barnett, the dude is a beast. He may not have elite speed, but make no mistake he has plenty enough speed to make an impact at the next level. What he lacks in elite speed he makes up for with elite technique. He practically lived in the back field this season with 13 sacks and 52 tackles for loss. The man can play.

If he's there at 28, I'd run to the podium. I'd even be ok with a slight trade up for him.

Totally agree. He's one of the very very few players who could possibly drop into our range that I would take over Corey Davis

And, that first video is him blowing by, in some circles, the TOP LT in the 2017 Draft - Cam Robinson. Made him look stooooopid ;)

We could use pass rushers across the board, LDE/RDE we can use them on both sides in my view.

Yes, I want that quick twitch RDE but I am not passing up Barnett if he is there at #28!

The Cowboys should draft at least two DE' s in this deep draft class at the DE position.

Brugler has him ranked #15 in his top 50:

15. Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee (6-3, 268, 4.76, #9)

One of the most productive pass rushers in SEC history, Barnett isn't naturally explosive off the edge, but he can bend and win with flexibility, instincts and power. He is consistently in the right place at the right time to be a reliable edge player vs. both the run and the pass.

If Corey Davis iss the only guy in the top tier on our board when we come up to pick (unlikely). I'm calling every team to move down.

what does the tape say against top competition? Is he a baller or not?

i want playmakers on defense not just trait guys who don't make plays...

id take Barnett he gets to the qb he can develop his other moves as he goes and get pro coaching

He is a bit of a long strider. The long stride guys don't "look" as quick as short stride guys.

Too many people want a wartless blue chip to magically be at #28. Not happening. You take the guy you think can develop with consistency and cover up his weak spots or work them out altogether. No pick will be perfect and you have to hope they find a guy that wants to work toward being the best.

If Barnett is a LDE how many RDE's are in this draft? 3? Maybe 4?

There are so many players that could come in and start Day 1 at RDE for us in this draft it's silly. At least one of Barnett, Takk, Taco, Harris, Anderson or Williams should be there at 28. And each of them would immediately improve the defense. Then there's a whole slew of LDE type players that would be worth a pick at our 2nd round spot. This draft is stacked with edge talent, and we could get our bookends for the next decade in one fell swoop.
