Recruited to Miami as a 2 sport athlete (#5 WR recruit in nation) but couldn't get academically cleared so ended up at Texas Southern. Had 713 yards receiving with 11 TD's while also averaging a double double for the basketball team in 2015. But was again ineligible in 2016 for the football team...not sure what his deal with school is, but if he's a 1/2 decent kid (no criminal activity that I can find) that is capable of learning a playbook I say bring him in for a shot. His height/speed combo is just freaky.

Looks like a practice squad basketball project TE. Already got one of those.

A) he doesn't run like a TE, at all.
B) We're talking about a legit football prospect, not a basketball player turned football player. Rico wasn't a top 5 football recruit as his position with offers from most major programs. If Griffin had been able to get himself eligible at Miami we'd be talking about a bonafide college star.

Hopefully we bring him in for a visit since he's a local kid. I'm really curious to see what his workout #'s will be

713 yards and 11 TDs isn't exactly dominating lesser competition. Be that as it may, he might be worth a look in the lower/last round. I'm a bit weary about extremely tall receivers. Too much leg exposure, and he looks like he has chicken legs.

i'd take a look at him as an udfa, but he looks like a long strider that won't be able to get much separation at the next level.

It's Texas Southern...they only completed 15+ passes 3x in 2015 and only threw for 200+ yards once. He caught 11 of the teams 19 TD catches too.

Not trying to claim this kid is going to be great or anything, never even heard of him before this morning. Just not very often you see a guy that tall run the way he does. He had a 6'11 wingspan as a teenager at Lebron's basketball camp too. Worst case he could be 1 hell of a red zone target. Being that big with his bball experience he should be really hard to stop on jump balls

I like Griffin too because he's such a match up problem for DB's. He's a very interesting prospect and Dallas should really scout him (if they haven't already) to gauge his potential. I would hate to see him turn into a beast for another team instead of ours. He's kind of a tweener, but because he's hovering close to 230lbs, most sites list him as a TE. If you watch the video you can see, that he's certainly capable of lining up as a WR. Hanna and Escobar are history and that leaves Swaim and Gathers as our future TE's. Are you comfortable going with those two guys after Witten retires?

Griffin could possibly be that big red zone threat, that Escobar was supposed to be and I think McClay should at least find out.

Wow...here I thought he was barely on anyone's radar.

Half of the freakin NFL showed up for him!

He'll get another chance on April 8th...I'm rooting for him.

What makes you think so? He didn't exactly dominate lesser competition. He didn't have astronomical stats like Jerry Rice did.
If he wasn't dominating at Texas Southern, then I doubt he would have been a bona fide college star at Miami.

Having said that, I see where the Cowboys have invited him in for a look-see. His height is impressive and could add a "another jump ball" element to our offense.

Was just stating in terms of height/athleticism/and high school pedigree. Obviously nothing is a sure thing, and he could have fizzeled out at Miami too....staying on the field with his head on straight seems to be his biggest weakness so "The U" easily could have been a terrible place for him.

But like I said earlier in the thread, I don't think it was possible for anyone to dominate at Texas Southern with the amount they threw and the QB play they had.

The Cowboys must think something of him since they're bringing him in for a visit. Too bad we don't have a fifth round pick. I wouldn't want to take him before then.
