I prefer Keeanu Benton.
- I prefer either Dexter or Benton over Mazi Smith.

I'm OK with Dexter at #58. His floor is Maliek Collins. His ceiling is Chris Jones.

Gervon Dexter (6'5-5/8", 310, 32-1/4" arms)
Dexter is often late off the snap to somewhat of an extreme.
- It's obvious to the point of being odd
- It's not on all snaps, but it happens more often than not.

Dexter flashes great plays but then looks terrible at other times.
- I often saw him get totally blow up by double-teams.
- On a couple of short yardage plays I saw him get blown up by single blocking.
- He is tall (almost 6-6) and tends to play with a high pad level.

Keeanu Benton (6'3-7/8", 311, 33-7/8" arms)
- Very strong.
- I think he is underrated a bit by the draft media because he played as a 3-4 NT in college.
- If he had played more 3tech and 1tech like Dexter, I think he would have looked more dynamic in game footage.
- He plays with violence in his upper body to shed blockers.
- Dexter had a better forty but Benton had better 3-cone and SS times.
Do you guys really get all hot and bothered about 40 and 3 cone times for a 300+ guy? I would think how he plays football and moves the big boys is what counts.

Those are the two most translatable Combine drills for 3 techs, so yeah.

I don't think it's possible for me to quote this article often enough. https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/article/combine-breakdown/which-combine-tests-matter-position?page=1

Interesting

Under 300? Arent we looking at 1T big guys?
That chart's for under 310. Benton falls right on that line at 309.

The 310 lb cutoff is arbitrary, but if we look at the over-310 DTs, it follows the same pattern. You want change of direction and quickness inside.

He met with the Cowboys at the combine and was a 30 visitor. He is a name to watch at 58, probably more of a heavier 3T
I won't be shocked if he's our first...Honestly the guy met with 24 teams....teams are interested...the team I'm leary of is the Ravens after they lost Campbell. He's not making it to our 2nd...I think it's Washington or Gervin in the 1st. Good players either way.

Zero'd in him for a while. Very interesting prospect. Has the talent to be a pro bowl caliber player, but could also wind up Tyron Crawford. Good fit here as a 3T/4i, and I think could eventually play at 320 lbs without sacrificing agility. Arm length is average though. Maybe even on the short side. Surprised me for a guy that is 6'6

He’s an interesting watch. His draft profile mentions him being slow off the ball and he is weirdly slow off the snap…even in his highlight reel which is positive plays he’s almost never the first guy off the ball.

Despite that he’s somehow able to get into the backfield, destroy single blocks and anchor against double teams. I’m also a big fan of DTs with high tackle numbers as it usually means they’re quality run players.

If it can improve his snap anticipation or just get better at getting off the ball he’s got some quality tools.
I watched the film of them getting gashed against LSU. One consistent was that he was winning his matchups and getting penetration

Very different players though. Benton is a pure 1T. Dexter will probably never line up in that gap. Come to think of it if you could get Dexter at 58 and somehow Benton at 90 that could be a home run

@Cowboyny and I were just talking about getting killed on stretch runs the other day, and how we really need a 4i. Dexter could come in and make a difference there. What you are getting with him would be a 3T and 4i type player

Only on cz is dexter higher than mazi lol. I'm not even getting into debates so no need to respond. Just funny to me
I think to some its a matter of cost. Ive been a Dexter fan since the jump, but 26 is too high. Some projections have him available at 58. Smith isnt lasting to 58, but I wouldn't spend 26 on him. Personally Id have both players around 45 to 55. Alot of projection. You hope Smith develops into Daron Paye and you hope Dexter develops into Muhammad Wilkerson

I'd rather have Dexter. Atleast he provides passrush up the middle. Mazi is just going to defend the run for you. Im Good with Hankins doing that

If he could fill that kind of role, certainly will go a long way to fix our run defense. Him being slow off the ball, does worry me though.

In the case of Gallimore is holds up to what we see on the field.
- i.e. That he very straight line-ish with terrible lateral agility.

Name
Neville Gallimore
Johnathan Hankins
Osa Odighizuwa
3-Cone Drill
7.97

Clearly they are still waiting for an impact DT. Hill busted, Gallimore looks the same, both Osa/Golston haven't either taken that next step. He has a lot of tackles which could be an indicator as a good run defender, but we would be drafting him for his upside as a rusher.

I really don't know if I want him or not, traits based picks scare the hell out of me, especially at this position where we have yet to develop a high end starter.
