Derwin James and LVE

Not sure how many snaps Derwin got week 1, but that LA secondary was lit up the entire game against Patrick Mahomes and company. Mahomes went 15 for 27 256 yards and 4 TDs.

Cam Newton was 17 for 26 for only 161 yards. Newton hurt us in the run game during the first half when players like Wilson and Lee were not staying in their lanes to prevent the QB from keeping the ball.

After seeing how Sean Lee played week 1, I'm more fine with the LVE pick. Hopefully Lee just needs to shake off some rust, but Dallas could very well be needing his replacement by the end of this year.

I understand it's just one game, but it is worth noting.

I'm in favor of the Vander Esch pick, but it's only 1 game. Either player could be terrible or great but game 1 for a rookie is meaningless.

If we got James it would not just be LVE though. We would have had to trade a 3rd to move up to get Derwin. So really it should be James and LVE and Gallup. I personally would not have had a problem with trading up for him, we decided not to. I am happy with LVE and also happy to have Gallup. I would have been happy with James instead if we went that route.

In the end was James worth both of them? As you said its just one game so who knows.

for the team, James is the better pick for us. LVE is a solid pick.

I agree with your post, but right now, LVE is solid, James would have plugged a hole for years to come.

They were never going to draft James even if he fell to them. They counted on getting ET all along. That’s why they did nothing at safety during the entire offseason.

Right, he can spell players for a couple of series and injury fill in until next year if they decide to move on from Lee a year early or the next if not. As long as they don't look as incompetent as they did last year when Lee was out I'm good with the pick and don't need the instant gratification of him starting immediately!

DJ sounds like he his already a solid player and a future star, yet the defense gave up a lot of yardage in the air and 4 touchdowns.

Leads me to believe the position is overvalued. LAC also did not have Bosa playing, so that could have had a large impact on the defensive side of the ball.

that would have been a game for him to start learning on and a hole would have been plugged. Cowboy fans that want to win as a franchise and not at the bar hi fiving other idiots would have been thrilled with James.

he's struggled all through camp and preseason
in that game the Ravens put up 50 points and ran 74 plays
like 6 people had 7 or more tackles

I liked him too but so far it's been rough
