Third Sooner enters draft… Oklahoma junior CB Reggie Smith has joined teammates Malcolm Kelly and Curtis Lofton in deciding to enter his name in the 2008 NFL Draft. Smith, who missed the Fiesta Bowl with a toe injury, had 78 tackles and 3 interceptions in 2007; at 6-0, 200 with average - for a 4.5 type speed - Smith could also get a look at safety this winter. It would appear, though, that neither of Oklahoma OG Duke Robinson or OT Phil Loadbolt did enter this year’s draft.

(4:30 PM): Cal WR enters draft.... California junior WR DeSean Jackson has indeed opted to enter the 2008 draft. Jackson had somewhat of a disappointing year in 2007, but with projected 4.3 speed and exceptional quickness could still be the first receiver off the board this coming April. Jackson is projected as a first-round pick in the next NFL draft.

(4:00 PM): Draft deadline passes; not much traffic… The deadline for underclassmen to apply for early entry to the 2008 draft closed at the top of the hour and to date no new names have been added to the list of juniors entering this year‘s draft. That doesn‘t mean that some players haven‘t applied today, but none has announced they were in fact entering the upcoming draft. Top prospects who were known to be thinking seriously about making the jump to the pros included Cal WR DeSean Jackson, who has a press conference at this hour and the Oklahoma trio of DB Reggie Smith, OG Duke Robinson and OT Phil Loadholt. Meanwhile, Virginia Tech junior CB Victor "Macho" Harris, who had indicated he was entering this year’s draft earlier this week, has reportedly changed his mind and decided to return to school for his senior season.

(12:01 AM): Ole Miss OT enters draft…. Mississippi junior OT Michael Oher has become the latest underclassmen to announce that he will skip his senior season and enter the 2008 draft. The 6-5, 325-pound Oher is expected to be a first-round pick this year. Meanwhile, several other juniors including DE Tyson Jackson and LB Darryl Beckwith of LSU and Rutgers safety Courtney Greene have said they will be returning to school for their senior seasons.
Draft decision day clock ticking… Underclassmen have until the end of business later this afternoon to apply for early admission to the 2008 draft,a lthough the majority of maor players have already made their intentions nown. In fact, upwards of 45 players have already formally or informally indicated they will be leaving school early and entering this year’s draft. Pro teams, though, are still waiting to hear from a trio of Oklahoma juniors - OG Duke Robinson, DB Reggie Smith, and OT Phil Loadholt - as well as California junior WR DeSean Jackson. Once today's deadline passes, early draft entrants who have not signed with an agent have a 72-hour window in which they can withdraw their applications.

(8:00 PM): Buckeye LB to stay in school... Ohio State junior MLB James Laurinaitis, already a two-time All-American who could have been a top 10 pick had he opted to turn pro this year, announced late this afternoon that he will stay at Ohio State for his senior year.

(5:00 PM): UM WR finally declares... It was one of the worst kept secrets in college footbal, but Michigan junior WR Mario Manningham has announced he will skip his senior season and enter the 2008 draft. The 6-0, 180-pounder with sub-4.5 speed is a big-play threat who averaged almost 17 yards per catch in his career. Indeed, Manningham has first-round physical tools, but could see his grade slip slightly because of questions abouthis maturity level, as well as a 2006 knee injury.

(4:00 PM): Sooners LB latest to enter draft.. Oklahoma junior LB Curtis Lofton, the Sooners' leading tackler this year, has announced he has decided to enter the NFL draft. Lofton is the Sooners’ second junior to declare for the draft this year, joining receiver Malcolm Kelly, who made a similar announcement last Thursday. Meanwhile, the sometimes turbulent Florida State career of QB Xavier Lee is over as he has reportedly decided to enter this year’s draft after the Seminoles asked him to move to TE. On the other hand, Alabama C Antoine Caldwell has confirme he will return for his senior season instead of entering the NFL draft.

Oher is an intriguing prospect and someone worth taking a look at.

I'm not overly excited about Desean Jackson. He has better WR skills than Ginn, but his size worries me.
