Despite depth at RB, Cowboys still need a philosophy

This team has one true strength and that is the offensive line. This team should be able to lead the league in rushing under any circumstances.

Currently we have a starter who has had serious injury concerns in the past, and while he finished a whole season without missing any games, he did not become a starter until what week 4 or so, and is now also a year older. I think there can be an argument made that he also doesn't really fit our scheme all that well either. He also only has one year left on his contract, and it would make no sense to extend him.

This brings us to Alfred Morris who I feel is a more appropriate stop gap player. We have him for two years, he has better scheme fit, he's a bit younger, but even then the question is how much tread does he have left and do you really ever want to put yourself in a position where you now have to rely on him to be your full time starter? I certainly don't. The idea of him splitting with McFadden is more promising, but I don't feel comfortable with either being the primary back with the other out injured.

That brings us to Dunbar, who I think is an excellent option in the passing game, but I haven't seen anything to suggest he is sufficient in the running game in any extended amount of playing time. We also only have him under contract for one year.

This brings me back to Ezekiel Elliott, who I think may be the best player in this draft and the safest pick in thsi draft. I think combined with Morris, they would give us the best running game we've seen. Enough to rival that of a Peterson caliber player. They are both excellent fits in the zone. If I'm Garrett and/or Linehan, I'm in love with what this kid brings to an offense. Extremely smart running back, who won't lose yards and can protect the QB in more ways than one. He is the type of player who can keep this offense churning and make for manageable 2nd and 3rd downs for Romo. I think he is the obvious choice for this franchise. The only thing I'd like to see at this point is a trade down to pick up some more picks, but I'm happy with him at 4 here.

I think Bosa and Ramsey, are most likely options or even Jack simply aren't safe bets.

I would say Tony Romo and Dez Bryant ate strengths.

But maybe I'm crazy.

Romo to Bryant is valuable, but it isn't a true strength. You can take Bryant out of the game. It's hard to straight up stop the running game when you have an elite line and elite runner. This also helps Romo tremendously.

I get the argument for Zeke. He could be a beast behind this oline. I also get the argument that rb's are gotten all over the draft who are good players. Maybe not the complete pkg Zeke is but good runners. To me if you got Zeke you don't need dmac. Dmac is a guy who like many backs get better after a few carries and if you get Zeke the idea would be to give him the majority of carries and he can also stay in on 3rd downs as a blocker or receiving option
I still think QB is never gonna be easier to get than now and would love to get one. I know some say trade down and take Zeke but that's risky. To me if you want Zeke you pretty much have to take him at 4, maybe you could slide to 7 but that opens the door for a team to trade up in front of you. Tough decisions

At Ohio State, Bosa was a roommate with Ezekiel Elliott. Apparently, their shared place was a party destination, and Bosa told teams that he had to move out and get his own place to get away from all the parties that Elliott had going on. Sources say they suspect that Elliott was also using molly and ecstasy while parting. A number of Elliott's teammates in the Combine interviews told teams that Elliott was a partier, and a unique individual. They said they hung out with him some, but he rubbed some the wrong way. Sources from multiple teams said that Elliott didn't interview well at the Combine, while Bosa had mixed feedback. The skepticism of why he goes to raves and the refusal of the drug test bothered some evaluators.

I question at #4 but otherwise I like him

I'm sure making NFL money will help him curb the partying....

Healthy Romo with 4 or 5 wide on 3rd down is a definite strength of this team. I would say it was our greatest strength in 2014, despite all the DeMarco hype.

Rather than be first in rushing I'd rather be first in RZ success, SC%, TO Diff, scoring, pass pressure, or pass defense. They correlate to winning much much more.

Think pass rusher or pass defender. Focus! Open your mind!
