Despite the team's stance and Tony Romo's presser, nothing is ever certain in the NFL

Here's what we know today:
  1. No one in the NFL football world would bench the rookie starter of this team with this record for Tony Romo or just about any other QB; Tony knows it. That's football, and in the words of Clint Eastwood's character in Unforgiven, "Deserve's got nothin' to do with it."
  2. There are seven games left; there's no guarantee that Dak won't suffer a minor injury that puts Tony back on the field; there's no guarantee that Dak won't have a bad stretch of gams over the next seven or in the playoffs when Tony might be called on because we need a change for a chance to win.
  3. Tony might ride the pine the rest of the season and never take a snap while Dak wins every game or loses a few. There may even be a loss that gets pinned on Dak's poor performance. Maybe Tony rides the pine; maybe Tony comes on in relief and plays at an incredibly high level and never gives it up again and actually wins the starting job next season.
You just never know. The only things we know for sure are that Dak is clearly the QB of the future for Dallas at this moment. Even if he falls apart, we won't be drafting another QB right away. The other thing we know for certain is that if the team keeps winning or even loses while Dak keeps performing at a high level, Tony will never start again in Dallas.

But there is still a lot of uncertainty in football. "Deserve's got nothin' to do with it." Right now Tony deserves nothing but our respect and gratitude; however, things can change this very Sunday, and if Tony got his chance and took this explosive offense to a new level, he might be starting in the playoffs and into next year. Anyone who thinks he knows what's going to happen is full of it. Anyone who hopes for Dak to be injured or to play poorly just to give Romo that chance isn't near the fan/teammate that Tony is. But anything can happen from week to week.

With all due respect...I thought we could go on with our lives after yesterday.

I share that feeling as well -- Tony has the option to do whatever he wishes to fulfill his dreams for the future. This team is now committed to Dak. I do believe he'll make us all proud as fans. Regardless of what might transpire during the remainder of the current season, I steadfastly believe that what has happened is for the best for everyone concerned, including the team as well. The transition was handled in the best way possible, imho.

You guys are beign silly or you're new to the NFL thing.

On Monday morning it was announced by Coach Fisher that Case Keenum would remain the starter. On Tuesday morning Coach Fisher announced that rookie Jared Goff would start. I am sure the Earth shifted in monumental ways in those 24 hours...or...not.

Dak was pretty bad in the first half against Pittsburgh and got a statistics lifeline from Zeke on a 83 yard TD 'pass.' Thankfully he was much better in the 2nd half.

We are all rooting for the kid to succeed because we care more about the laundry than the name on it. But for those who are pretending that a presser from Tony where he said he still has the desire and competitive fire to play will permanently end this controversy...well...welcome to the NFL. It's an awesome league. You'll enjoy following it.

I fully expect Tony to play a vital role in this season before it is all said and done. I've maintained that you need Tony to win it all. Maybe Dak will prove that line of thinking wrong, but I still think playoff football is different and experience is a key factor in being able to succeed in those circumstances.

Exactly. Tony said Dak has earned the right to be the quarterback. That doesn't mean Dak will continue to earn it, and it doesn't mean that Tony doesn't fully intend on earning it back.

The only way two ways Romo sees action this year is if Dak gets hurt or really starts to stink up the joint with his play. If Dak goes 0-3 in the the next 3 and throws a ton of INT's the team has to go back to Romo.

Now.... it's only about a Super Bowl win.
As hard as that will be to do with a rookie QB and this defense.... it's STILL only about #6. Period.

You cou,d argue that a few of these games had playoff type adversity and atmosphere.

He stumbled, fell... and got back up again!

I'm sure Tony has already had a vital role in helping Dak.

Good post... I realize that people want to move on, but yesterday was a big deal for this franchise and represents a big shift in direction and focus. I think the moment merits some processing.

1. Love how Romo has handled himself all year-- and yesterday was a moving, honest, beautiful tribute from a great teammate and leader.
2. Dak has demonstrated the ability to be the franchise QB and I am looking forward to watching him grow and mature as a player and leader.
3. I am excited about our prospects this season. Amazing run and as Tony said-- something magical is happening.
4. I am nervous on how the FO will handle Romo this offseason. I hope they play it smart and set us up with a great trade and get value for Tony-- or Tony settles in as the backup. If we just outright cut him, I will be disappointed.

There are no "moving on's" in the sports forum world. I'm still upset that the Danny White and Tony Dorsett led Cowboys lost to the Commanders in the 1987 strike season. The Commanders team was all replacement players and we lost 13-7. Keeps me up at night sometimes.

But do we have to talk about it as nauseam. Thank God for QB Zone. Travis, Frederick, Tyron, Ron, Witt, and Beasley are BALLIN!!! Garrett just do what he do. Linehan & Marrinelli....enough said:starspin:
