If we need him at some point in the season for more than 4 games and he delivers, then the 6th round draft pick was wisely used.

I don't think there is much difference between 5th/6th/7th round picks and undrafted free agents. And it looks like the Cowboys will have a few compensatory picks coming their way this year.

I give Jerry Jones and the front office credit for this deal. Nice insurance policy for the CB position.

Between this trade and the Brian Price waiver claim, I think we should all take a moment and pause what we are doing to just quietly reflect on what a genius Will McClay is.

In moments of confusion I'm comforted by the knowledge that he has a plan. I'm just not capable of understanding it.

The plan is to have some back up contingency plans in place for CB until the rookies are ready and DT to account for suspensions.

In essence we needed assurances that we would have 4 quality CBs the first few weeks of the season. The top 3 are Scandrick, Carrol and Brown and Awuzie is #4, but any injury to any one of them, likely meant Marquez White is active and he isn't ready for that. Once Jourdan Lewis is practicing consistently, Bene is likely going to be released.

They can just make him inactive after 3 games and cut him once White is ready to replace him from the practice squad. Or they could just keep him inactive each week until they need him due to injury. If he is needed later in the year, then it's well worth a 6th in 2019.

The Panthers were pretty high on this guy throughout 2015, and going into 2016. He was pretty good in the slot for them that year. After they let Norman go, he was supposed to be their best veteran corner (which wasn't saying much).

He was absolutely trashed by Julio Jones early in the season. After the game, he admitted that he wasn't in proper shape, and the Panthers released him within 24-48 hours of that statement IIRC. I don't know what he did after that, but him being out of shape was surprising because in his first two seasons he was known as heady player and a hard worker. .

I get what you mean, but at the same time, there's no Patrick Peterson or Eric Berry available out there. The Cowboys are just looking for depth with these pickups.

Looks like the team chose a vet CB who fits the scheme over Marquez White....for now. Ideally this guy never sees the field. But with Carroll facing suspension at some point and the probability of an injury, the depth at CB will be tested.

Does a 2019 5th rounder interest you? We got extras.
