But Detroit has also given up an average of 5 yards per carry. They have the 3rd worst ranked rushing defense (ypc).

This team CAN be run on, and likep people have said it will be even worse with Carpenter in there.

I expect a huge day from our running backs, especially Felix Jones. I fully expect 150-200 yards rushing from our entire running back corps.

Yea, we really need to be able to run the ball so Romo doesnt get too many hits. One good hit from Sue and Romo might be done for the season.:(

I agree Beast(s), but doesn’t that seem too obvious? If we can see the Cowboys have to run, then they do too. Just maybe they watched the film of the Commanders and saw how we struggled with a lot of guys in the box? As they say, it’s a copy cat league. I think they are going to test the Cowboys early and put a safety in the box to (A) Stop the run and (B) Test the WR core (C) Test the O-line. I think we need O-Stupid Tree and #81 to step-up and burn them out of that strategy.

Nah, that stat is misleading to me. They gave up a big reverse to Percy Harvin, a 24 yarder to Dexter McCluster, and Josh Freeman had 26 yards on 4 carries. The only "regular" running back who's had any kind of success against them is Adrian Peterson.

There might be room to the outside against them, but I wouldn't expect to make a lot of hay with a conventional running attack.

The Chiefs as a team had 29 carries (only 2 by Charles) for 151 yards, and you point to one 24 yarder as evidence that the 5 ypc stat is misleading?

The only team that hasn't ran well against them was the Bucs, and THAT is somewhat misleading because they only ran it 16 times and 4 of those were the QB. Their lead RB only had 5 carries. If Minnesota wasn't so stupid as to give their best player only 17 carries when they're up by 20, nobody would even be talking about Detroit right now since they wouldn't be 3-0 and would have got spanked by an average at best team.

....they gave up some early season runs but overall....there is NO earthly way you can tell me Costa, Nagy and Kosier are going to control the middle of the line of scrimmage over SUH, Williams, Vandenbosch, etc...my god that's a huge mismatch: HUGE. .....I fear for Romo's health in this one: hope to heck I'm wrong. (PS-no WAY that Dallas gets 100 yds rushing in this one...)

Well generally if you are going to get a 5.0 ypc number, it's going to require some decent sized run. And I don't know why this is a bad thing. Should we fear running against a team that has a tendency to give up a big play or two on the ground?

That being said, I'm not sure that there are more than a handful of teams that haven't given up a couple of 20-40 yarders at this point in the season. So I don't really know that it's all that misleading.

If we can run it with some success, it'll force them not to pin their ears back after Tony, and will open up the passing game.

As long as Ogletree runs the right routes. That pick last week is on him.

Why are you all butthurt about it? I'm talking about nonconventional runs, which is why I brought up two reverses and QB scambles.

I mean, they've given up 339 yards on the season, but 99 or so of them came on 6 carries that weren't by running backs. I'm not going to go through all the carries to eliminate kneel downs and such, I'm just saying that with the small sample of 3 games and 68 carries, pointing at the 5.0 ypc and saying that means we can run against them is misleading, especially when we haven't had a lot of success all season.

Of course, I hope I am dead wrong.

The whole point is that they were runs not by RB's.

This is how I see it.
They are suspect on off tackle runs because Bosch @ Anvril seem to take wide angle rushes. The Garrett draw should be in use today. Hopefully Sue doesnt crush our pulling guard before the handoff.

McCluster is a running back. Not a conventional one maybe, but he is a running back.

Well, thank God Robinson is showing up like crazy, but we can't seem to run block vs. anybody, so I'm not annoitniting the Lions yet. They are stout from what I see, but I think our P-poor run blocking makes everybopdy look good. I will say that they have kept Romo clean, tho.

we've got 72 yards rushing so far... it'll only get worse (for detroit) now that we scored here...
