I know they've busted with WRs early on, but man if Calvin Johnson is there I have a lot of trouble passing on him. Its not like they have a great WR corps, and he seems to be as close to a sure-thing as there is. I know it would be ANOTHER first round WR, but I still think they should take him. What do you guys think?

I think that any team who has the chance at drafting this guy and passes is foolish and the GM should be fired.

This guy is the best thing to come out of college football as far as pure talent in the last ten years. He is a game changer and will be the next great WR.

I think Det is a team with many needs, they have a very good WR in Roy Williams and I think they need to fill other areas of their team. If they feel they need to have a good WR working opposite of Williams I think they could do that in the 2nd rd.

All of which proves that BPA is a myth...I have heard nobody say that Johnson wasn't far and away the best player in this draft, yet many mocks have him not going until #4.

Personally, I think the Raiders are foolish if they take Russell or Quinn at overall #1. They should trade Randy Moss, sign a vet QB, draft Calvin Johnson in round 1, and Drew Stanton in round 2, then focus on OL for the rest of their picks.

Calvin Johnson is too good to be true. He is the only player in this Draft who is truly worthy of overall #1.

Lions have tons of needs. I personally feel they should groom a QB as great WR's never become that way without an awesome QB as well.

As good as CJ is, a solid offensive line and accurate QB will dictate how many yards/TD's he can accumlate.

Well, a bunch of mock drafts that show Russell as #1 don't really prove that. They might prove that the mock drafters are idiots, but until it actually goes down...

If I could I'd swap picks with Detroit who should jump all over Russell. Take Johnson and they should come out with a high pick or two. Even if one is next year.

Better yet, IMO, is to sell that pick or trade Russell to the highest bidder. Someone will pay a lot for him.

There is no one like Johnson in my book. Who would equate to his talent in the last 25 years or so?

I agree. They might not get too much for Moss, but I think this should be the way to go for them.

At this point, who cares how much they get for him? He gave up on them.

After watching Drew Stanton flat out melt down in the game against ND (and it wasn't the 1st time he's spit the bit in the clutch) I would steer clear of him. QB is at least as much a mental position as physical. It's tough to coach up chokers. If I were Detroit I'd probably use the pick. If Johnson isn't there (my guess is he won't be) I'd take Brady Quinn. If Johnson is there I'd consider moving down but it would take the kind of offer SD got from the Giants- otherwise just draft Johnson.

In 2003, I thought Matt Millen was stupid for taking Charles Rogers over Andre Johnson.

In 2004, I thought Roy Williams was a great pick, but wondered if they somehow would ruin him.

In 2005, I thought it was hilarious that Millen went WR again and on a guy that sat out a whole year and ran bad times.

In 2006, I thought he got a very good LB in the Derrick Brooks mold. A little small for my taste though, but okay for the 4-3.

2007, I think he has to take the best player in the draft in Calvin Johnson. You can't let past mistakes cause you to make another one. If he does pass on Johnson, this will end up being the pick that finally does him in.(fired)

I brought this up in a different thread, the one that had some ridiculous mock draft that had them taking Adrian Peterson.

I say they take either Quinn or Johnson.

He's got something on someone up there. He should have been fired long ago.

But in all seriousness when has Detroit been something special?

That fluke flash in the pan in 1991 is the highlight of the Super Bowl era for them.

From the look of auto sales it appears the Ford family has him pulling double duty however.
