Video: Deuce Vaughn: Energy and Brotherhood

I’m sure it’s been said within the six pages of posts that I didn’t read, but he needed a role/plays created specifically for him.

I’m a little surprised MM didn’t at least try that. Why draft him if not?

I thought he would be better, and now that Blue is here, it’s over for him. Here anyway. Maybe someone will see him as a kickoff returner now that the coverage doesn’t have as much of a head of steam to rip him in half.

We might see Deuce having more success this year, simply due to having a better OL blocking for him. If he's unable to improve his results in 2025, he'll most likely be cut. Whatever occurs to shape his fate, perhaps it won't be because he wasn't afforded more opportunities to perform.

I expect this regime to give him more chances to prove himself. McCarthy shortchanged him to some extent. Will Schotty be any different? Let's see if Deuce can prove himself, despite his lack of size.
McCarthy retained his services. If Schottenheimer cuts Vaughn in training camp does that represent not giving him a fair chance? It would certainly be less of a chance than McCarthy gave him. Is “Schotty” and the entire coaching staff going to get ripped here if Vaughn doesn’t make the 53 man roster?

It’s different now cause he has two rookies to beat out. He can’t just be similar caliber. He would have to be definitively better to make the roster.

I have nothing against Vaughn. I thought he played well enough, despite his size. I think the issue was that our coaches didn't utilize him properly.
I think he is too slow and not stout enough to break tackles. That is the problem.

Such hate for a bubble player. I don't see anyone so eagerly counting down the days for guys like Waletzko or Jalen Brooks.

It's really irrational. So he was a good story on draft day. Does that mean you should despise him?
No but why is it hate to want him gone?

It's over the top, as I've mentioned before,l in this thread, and is completely disproportionate to the player and his impact. This is a bubble player who some people on this board very clearly despise.

You can see it in his eyes. He knows he's on the bubble.

Yes. Anything Schottenheimer does in deference to Vaughn will “definitively” be the right thing. I love the off season. It’s when fans can rationalize anything.

Vaughn is a great story. Quintessential American stuff. Try-hard player becomes collegiate star. Not so effective at the NFL level.

Dallas would be doing Vaughn a favor by releasing him immediately. At least he would have time to catch on with another team. They wouldn't be doing him a favor by keeping him until the final cut.

McCarthy could likely have given Deuce Vaughn better circumstances to be successful but he didn't.
This coaching staff isn't going to get ripped, even if he's cut and does his best to be retained but can't improve his play of 2024. Most of this team's fans want results and likely might understand the decision to cut him if Deuce again fails to impress.

I think he could make it with some teams in the NFL.

With Deuce, you'd want to mostly find plays for him out of 2TE sets so you can help him with TEs.

But you have to account for his weaknesses and hope he brings something with his game to account for it.

On another note, I know Deuce was good, even great in his own right.college, but I wonder how much, if any, his dad was involved while he played at K State.

Lastly, I think the best thing he could do is put on a bit of weight.

The coaching staff isn't likely to get ripped if he's cut, if Deuce does his best to be retained and can't improve his performance of last year. Most of this team's fans want results and likely would understand Schotty's decision if Vaughn fails to improve his play from 2024.
McCarthy is ripped for not cutting, but not making use of him. Many here say McCarthy (and by association you’d have to include his OC) didn’t know how to use him. If Schotty dumps him altogether all of a sudden it’s the appropriate thing to do. Makes perfect sense.

He's looked slow because his blocking at K State was much better.

Vaughn has a shot to make the team, I'd think, because he has his dad and his former coach here. They will have a voice on whether he gets a roster spot, which I'm fine with. It's just, if he gets one, he should play a role.

Anyway, I want to say his dad was involved at K State or coaches while Deuce played there, but I could be wrong.

OK, but I admit I still want him to prove the doubters wrong.

I think the biggest concern with Deuce is pass blocking...
I do, too. I want every Cowboys player to be all pro. When he has the ball in his hands, I cheer like he’s Emmitt Smith.

I could easily live with Schotty cutting Deuce in TC as long as his reps don't prove encouraging. Some RBs are talented enough to do well in college but not suited to get by in the pro game. The fact that he averaged 2.5 ypc last year was anything but an encouraging sign. I could easily live with a decision to cut him if his play isn't very different in TC. I think many folks here feel much the same. We'll see.
