That's a very very small number. How many players have ever played in the history of the NFL that wasn't a track star?
The point we may not be conveying as effectively as we like is that a LOT of NFL players WERE track stars in high school and/or college but decided at some point to focus on football. Ezekiel Elliott was a Missouri state champ in the 100 meters and high hurdles in high school. Devin Hester was a Florida State champ in the long jump. Chris Johnson was a Florida 100 meter state champ.. A lot of guys stop running track in college because it's the football team that gave them the scholarship. After all football gets 80-90 of 'em to hand out! Other sports don't get half that many. Some guys get double scholarships.. Others, like Deion and Bo get scholarships in three sports - football, baseball and track and field. Hell even John Riggins was a Kansas state champ in the 100 yard dash back in his high school days.
I would wager there are 5-6 legit high school/college track and field studs on every NFL roster. Speed kills.. and it, along with sheer size, is one of the things you simply cannot teach.
