I don't move up to get him, but if he's on the board he'd be a good choice.

The two biggest "knocks" on him I've seen are that he's somewhat limited in the pass rush (basically has a bull rush or a swim move) and that he had two significant leg injuries in college. Fairly dominant run-stuffer, though, and has shown the ability to require double teams, often allowing edge rushers to have more one-on-one match-ups.

Devon Still has never been referred to as a "slacker," nor has his love for the game ever been questioned by scouts. If anything, he has been known for his resiliency - his first two seasons were wiped out by injury - and his dedication in the weight room.

For those who bring up his 'inconsistent production' this year -- go watch the tapes of the Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Ohio State games (the three games Penn State played after the Sandusky scandal exploded). The Penn State DL was being held CONSTANTLY all game, and the opposing teams were rarely, if ever flagged. It was actually quite flagrant. I have a few friends who play on the Penn State football team and three players on the team actually said that during the Wisconsin game, after Devon was badly held on 3 consecutive plays and pled to the refs for flags, one referee actually yelled "you guys aren't getting any love from us" or something similar. Several players actually talked about that after the games.


There's a reason why he is an All-American.

I think if they go defensive line in the second I would prefer they try to grab Wolfe over Still.

Are slackers usually elected team captain?

Still's the kind of player the Giants or Pats will probably take at the bottom of round 1. If he's on the Giants, he probably buries Romo in week one and we are *****ing that he abused our rookie guard first round pick.

A few things about that Penn State defense last year:

1. They had the worst offensive support of any team in the history of the forward pass. They literally had to hold teams under 14 points to have any chance of winning. There was no playing with a 3 TD lead where you could just worry about defending the pass.

2. While Still had a nice draftable partner at DT (Jordan Hill), the defensive ends were the worst in maybe 2 decades. There was no outside pass rush.

3. Still had a back injury (worth checking out to see if it is a long term thing) during the latter part of the season and a bad turf toe injury that he sustained during bowl practice. On the upside, he never complained or took time off.

Personally I'd be thrilled if Dallas could land him in the 2nd round. He has a great attitude and a lot of talent. I thought he was better in college than Jared Odrick who went to Miami 2 years ago in the 1st round.

I haven't watched enough of Still to comment on his motor, but I do wonder why such an imposing talent didn't have more production. At least Brockers had the excuse of youth, he's a sophomore and 1.5 years younger than Still. I do notice on his videos that he plays really upright like Jason Hatcher. Might have trouble being a every down 2 gapper in the 3-4.

He'd be a very good 2nd round pick. He really does have 1st round ability.

I have Still as the best 3-4 DE in the draft.

I compare players to others at the same position, in this case Worthy since they faced similar competition and the tape doesn't lie....Still had superior production.

Then I look at how players fared in matchups against other players that will play on Sundays and Still held his own against the Zeitlers and Konzs and Brewsters of the Big10. Don't really care for players who only blowup someone who will be in accounts payable in June.

Then I look at other factors.

I really like the fact that Still is related to Art Still and Levon Kirkland as he'll know a little more about what it takes to be a successful NFL player than a normal rookie.

I don't like the fact that he was injured so often.
