Not going to step into the hornet's nest more than once, so I'll just say what I always say for these games and that will be it. The coaches had the players in position to make the plays to win this game, and the players did not make the plays. That goes for Beasley's red zone drop. Dez's red zone drop. Witten's missed blocks and sunlight drop. It goes for the DLs inablility to stop a bad Giants run game sooner, and Terrence Williams' bad decision to not get out of bounds. As long as I see these things happening, I don't blame the coaches. Because I believe the coaches are here to develop the talent and put the team in position to win games, and generally, I think they do.
Of the coaching things I didn't like, I don't like the TE screens on 3rd and long, even when what they're clearly doing is playing for field position there are better calls. I don't like the TE screens in general. I didn't like that we didn't push our perimeter running game at them more because I think that DL was vulnerable to it. And I think it's a legitimate question why it is we have players in position to win so often and they don't make more plays. I think there's a fire that needs to be lit, especially under this offense, and that it's on the coaches to figure out how to do so. I think it's time for a statement of some sort to be made. This week.
Beyond that, I find the histrionics from (some of) my fellow Cowboys fans after a week-one loss embarrassing. Threads like "Cut Doug Free Now" and "Do you all still think Zeke Elliott is a Hall of Famer?" make me cringe, and then gag, and then want to reach through my DSL connection and punch Joe in Flower Mound right in his stupid face. Had I stooped to the point of giving birth to such emotionally messy and logically malformed atrocities, I'd want my loved ones to beat me more senseless and throw my body in a trash compactor to teach me the lesson that I deserve. I'm embarrassed to share a fanhood with a giant bunch of blue and silver babies. That's not directed at all of our fans, or at posters in CZ at all, necessarily, but in general, that's how I feel after most of our regular season losses. I don't say anything about it usually because I'll die a death of a thousand entitled duck-bites if I did, but since you asked directly, the least I can do is answer so you know where I stand.
