Bryant's Back Issue Muscle-Related
Darren Woodson discusses the news that Dez Bryant's back problems are muscle-related, not a disk issue

Injury Wire

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said the soreness in wide receiver Dez Bryant's back is muscle related, not disk related.

Bryant had an MRI earlier in the week and, according to a source, the results were the same as when Bryant had a test after last year's season finale against the Washington Commanders. Bryant was forced out of that game when his back tightened, and he left the locker room in a wheelchair.

"I think we're going to be fine," Jones said as he walked to practice.

Bryant was on the practice field Friday for the second straight day. He was limited in Thursday's workout. During the portion of practice open to the media, Bryant ran a series of red-zone routes without any apparent issues.

Recurrent back pain is a cause for some level of concern. Right now I'd say not a lot.

I agree. Some doctors rely too much on MRI. He has recurrent pain, stiffness and spasms.

My best guess is he has some small annular tears. Over time those tend to expand and often lead to discuss degeneration down the line.

It is a big enough problem that I would suggest safeguards in place in an extension or don't sign him at all.

Was are replaceable but 80M contracts to players who rarely suit up are organization killers.

Good post. Could be annular tears. It may also just be he needs to get his back and hamstrings balanced and quieten down the inflammation. I suspect some of both may be going on. I hope he's not doing a lot of work with his legs like squats. He needs to minimize even bending over to tie his shoes for now.

And where have you been?! :)

Cut him now. Don't want to risk anything based off speculation contrary to facts.

There was a thread posted about this last night. I even performed an edit on it. :)
