Dez Bryant is still elite at what matters most in the NFL

...Finally healthy with a full offseason training program under his belt, this was supposed to be the year Bryant retakes his throne as one of the league’s top receivers.

But according to the head coach of the team the Cowboys are about to face on Sunday, the Washington Commanders, Bryant is still elite when it comes to the NFL’s most important thing … scoring.

“What matters is getting the ball in the endzone. That’s what Dez’s forte is,” Commanders head coach Jay Gruden told the Dallas Morning News. “He’s still as good and maybe one of the top redzone targets in the league. Scoring in the redzone is the most important part of pro football, third downs and scoring in the redzone.”

It's fine to say that Dez isn't as good as he once was, even in this department.

There was a time when he was the best possession receiver I've ever seen.

Im mad how Dez is not being in positions to use his strengths more or to compensate for his weaknesses. I dont blame the player for this, unless he refuses.
The only thing Dez ever refused was carrying Roy Williams shoulder pads, it's been long proven that this organization doesn't know how to utilize it's players. If Dez were in NE or PIT then he would have 1200yds ever season, they still don't use Zeke the right way either by the way they rarely run screens for him.

I have a hard time believing that the organization doesn't know how to teach a wide receiver proper route running and/or that they have refused to teach it to Dez. He runs ****** routes and can't get separation because he fails to hone his craft.

Dez seems to be an above average physical specimen, but below average in terms of caring enough to become a polished receiver. It's mental more than physical.

Derek Dooley is the WR coach. Being a UT Alum and supporter, let me know how much time you have to know about this egotistical *** who is only in football because of his daddy's name. He has failed at every level he has been and for some reason, our receivers tend to lapse into bad habits much more than they did under Jimmy Robinson

Yeah Dooley sucks. +1 for that. On the other hand do you think Dez hasn't been taught to run a route by anyone with the Cowboys in his entire time here? Hell Romo coached him up himself.

Same argument can be made for any player. When they produce, it totally mattered, and when they didn't produce it didn't matter at all.

He who defines what, "matters".

Are you literally saying Dez cant run a decent route? Or are you trolling?

Yes. His route running sucks. Horribly sucks. Have you not watched Dez literally since we drafted him? It's so clear it's hardly debatable.

I don't care about whether an individual is "elite" or not, I just want to win.

Our offense sucks, Dez sucks. We scored more pts than NE last year per drive, and are #2 in points per drive this year (even with the de-pantsing at Denver), purely by accident.

While I cant imagine anyone is saying he is Antonio Brown, and all of our receivers get into a habit of hopping off the line and getting jammed easier, I can give multiple video examples of good routes.

I am just not understanding from where this "he is little more than a functional mentally challenged special needs case" is coming.

Weird, it is now the new lament that has turned into a mob
