Dez Bryant ran an unconfirmed 4.57 at Tuesday's private workout. if he did, he Falls!

I agree. Every team needs to do research on every prospect that they look at. They need to not only do research on the field but off the field as well. This is why I expect Dez to have many invites to try to get an understanding of what kind of player Dez is on and off the field.

thats what im trying to get you to realize dboyd,

teams have been to the combine and now dez's hometown, they still have questions that werent answered,

this makes the scouts and general managers wonder if this kid is ready for football and realize what it takes to be an elite wr, the hard work, film study etc..

im not trying to say anything negative, heck could be even that just like i have prayed for us to get an elite player that can play 12 to 14 years for us, be an all pro, that God is allowing Dez to fall some into our laps

i dont know, i just trust our scouts, and know the cowboys are doing their homework, like you said above;

but when teams have to continually get more info on you, because either was mental or physical aspect, it makes the scouts, head coaches like Singletary and Packers head coach wonder, etc

that creates doubt, and you have to be sure when you take that player in the first round, or will set your team back 3-4 years, have to hit on that first rounder

Oklahoma State WR Dez Bryant is still going through position drills at his private workout for NFL teams, but I do have his 40-yard dash times to pass along.

Bryant began the workouts Tuesday in his hometown of Lufkin, Texas, with the 40, posting times of 4.52, 4.68 and 4.52 seconds. He was asked to run the third time because of the discrepancy between the first two times, the second of which was into the wind.

Early during his position drills, Bryant did drop some passes, but he looked much better after getting into the flow of the drills with former Oklahoma State QB Bobby Reid.

The notable NFL coaches and executives in attendance Tuesday include Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, 49ers coach Mike Singletary and director of player personnel Trent Baalke, Packers coach Mike McCarthy and director of college scouting John Dorsey, Ravens wide receivers coach Jim Hostler, Bucs wide receivers coach Eric Yarber and Raiders scout Cliff Branch.

UPDATE: A few more Bryant numbers to pass along. He measured in at 6-foot-1 1/2 and 224 pounds, and he had a 38-inch vertical, an 11-foot-1 broad jump, 4.48-second short shuttle and 7.21-second three-cone drill. Due to the hand-held times at workouts, you’ll see 40-yard dash times between 4.49 and 4.60 for Bryant.

Thanks for the update Joe.

Despite the >4.5 forty, the 38 inch verical and 11-1 broad jump show explosiveness.

BTW, Irvin was the 11th pick overall :)

i dont think he will fall that far,

think about this, vikings got randy moss at 21
cowboys got emmitt smith at 17
cowboys got michael irvin who had same kind of speed at 18
percey harvin went to the vikings at the 22
sapp DT fell to 17

so i say he will fall and be drafted anywhere from 17 to 24 for sure

would it be great for us, if dez falls to 27 yes, or even some reports i heard, if he falls, some team might want to trade up like rams, detroit, chiefs or cleveland and give us some super draft picks

so you keep all your options open, interview the player, study more film on him, etc.. and be ready for any scenario if dez falls to us

True but then those draft were not as deep as this one with so many under classmen entering the draft this year.

I'm sorry, but if he only ran .1 second faster than Jerry Rice...no way I'll consider him!
Gil Brandt has gone on record that the Cowboys had Rice at 4.40.

wow where the **** are all the people that **** on jordan shipley for running the exact same time? i believe the words used by many where 'i dont want a slow white WR'

He ran a 4.52... at 225 pounds and had a 11 foot broad jump. He is immature, but let's not act like Shiplet is physically on his level.

I'm not I'm just saying everybody **** on Jordan for running that exact same time and we aren't even talking about a first round guy but he has the best hands and great crisp routes and is a character guy but this guy is first round and isn't a character guy and ran the exact same time and everybody is gaga over him slipping to us its ridiculous

lol...If Shipley was 225 he'd probably run a sub 4.7

If Dez was 190 he'd probably run a sub 4.4, if he was at his playing weight of 215 he'd break 4.5..

Don't even compare there athleticism..

One way or another Dez Bryant is going to be a Dallas Cowboy come April 22nd. Whether it is at 27 or some other pick in front of 27. I am just starting to feel like Jerry already has his mind made up about taking this guy, assuming he does fall a bit. I am not sold that his skill set is what we need offensively, he does make plays though, just doesn't have the speed we are missing. This is all just my opinion.

I sort of have the same feeling...

does anyone know if Jerry has had dinner w/ him yet?

Please, stop talking stupidity. Everyone was ****ting on Shipleys head cause he's 5'11 and 190 pounds. If you're comparing Bryant to Shipley then you're a huge moron.

ok first off shipley did run a 'sub' 4.7 at 190 so saying he would do it at 225 doesn't make sense for your argument, not to mention that your whole argument is based on if they switched weights they would be faster/slower which makes no sense cause if shipley were 225 then he would would have to be kind of fat to run 4.7 plus(which ill just assume is what you meant) and he wouldn't be a D1 WR in the first place, basically your whole argument is pointless.

and yes i am comparing shipley to bryant, their 40 times, are the same and dez is a first round prospect and a true WR where as shipley is a slot option were 40 time is is less important than at WR. 4.57 is 'slow' for shipley but not for dez is just a biased argument and is ignorant. if 4.57 is slow for one player then it is slow for everybody else at that position. period.

Didn't Larry Fitzgerald run something absurd like 4.65?

The best he ran was a 4.52 and I think his worst was like a 4.71.

So did Jerry Rice, Irvin, Boldin, etc. That doesn't mean much. If teams pass on him its cause of the character concerns

I'll re-read this tomorrow, way to lazy to respond right now

I think we'll hear this:

"and with the 8th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft...The Oakland Raiders select...Dez Bryant, Wide Receiver, Oklahoma State University."

Bryant is a big, strong ourside WR who can and does go up and take the ball away from people. Shipley is a small guy who has to have speed to succeed in the slot where he'll be used.

That should be obvious...

Not to mention that Bryant didn't seem to be in great shape. He also worked out outdoors on a high school field. Contrast that with Shipley who surely was well prepared and running on what is usually a fast track. Players running at these big football factories where Pro Days are a huge production usually post great times.

How many small, slow WRs succeed in this league anyway?
