I’ve been studying the receiver position for a long time and I’ve found that there are two types of receivers in the NFL. There are what I call the “creators” and the “created for”. Each type of receiver can have a lot of success if put into the right system. However, the creators are typically harder to find.
For the “created for” receivers, they are typically players who need to be in the correct system with the correct quarterback and with the perfect supporting cast to excel and reach their potential. These type of players are typically niche players, but that’s not written as a dis. They just aren’t as successful if you line them up on the outside and ask them to win consistently versus man coverage by using a typical route tree. They are better when they run a few specific routes and are often used in combination with other players to either help them create space for them to operate or to get them open.
