I've watched NFL football since around 57. Something Irvin just said at the combine that I totally agree with. Now I know that Irvin has adopted Dez and he's a Cowboys' homer. But I agree completely with this statement I paraphrased:

"Dez Bryant is the best WR I've ever seen in going up and getting a ball." I think he mentioned something about being covered and getting it. Well, he's the best I've seen, too.

What WRs are in that top tier of being able to get the ball?

Charley Taylor was good but nope. Swann (throw up) nope. Mitchell nope. Warfield closer but nope. Moss.....probably. Fitz...yeah. Johnson....close.

Any oldie goldies you people can think of?

I don't remember anyone who can do that like Dez.

Check out the catch at 1:13 against the Texans:

Enjoy the rest.

I'd consider renaming the thread given that it has nothing to do with Murray.

As for the question you pose, OBJ looks like he may even surpass Dez at being able to haul it in when covered. If you're looking for old timers, the original 88 here in Dallas was a pretty good one.

But you're right: it's hard to come up with guys that can rival Dez in that regard.

Smh. People get carried away with ONE good season. Same thing happened with Josh Gordon.

Fitz is the most similar in style. Megatron and Moss are/were really good at it, but you won't see it as much in their highlights because they are so wide open so often and they have the length to just reach up and grab balls without much resistance from DBs.

I made this statement months ago. Somebody here scoffed, bringing up Randy Moss. Dez is better at the contested jump ball than Moss ever was.

all homerism aside megaton is the best. Sometimes he's triple covered and it doesn't matter.

I wouldn't go that far. Moss was faster, taller, and jumped higher. Dez is good, but Moss was a BEAST.

As far as going up and winning the battle to come down for the ball, bryant and fitz are the best in recent memory, by a large margin.

He just can't complete the catch.....remember the Giants game when his hand hit out of bounds and of course the famous GB game last year......jeez

This is the epitome of fan comfort - that I can say, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that 'I wouldn't trade Dez Bryant for ANY OTHER WIDE RECEIVER IN THE GAME, TODAY'.

Any... wide receiver... today.

I like the sound of that. I like it even more - that I mean every bit of it.
