My local ESPN affiliate is citing reports out of Oklahoma City that Dez Bryant has been declared ineligible for the rest of the college football season.
Dez Bryant Ruled Ineligible
(STILLWATER, Okla., Oct. 7, 2009) -- Dez Bryant has been ruled ineligible for a violation of NCAA bylaw 10.1(d).
Oklahoma State University has already begun the process of applying to the NCAA on his behalf for reinstatement.
This incident does not involve anyone associated with the OSU football or athletic department staffs, any employee of the university, alumni, donors, or any third-party affiliated with OSU.
OSU is taking this step because Bryant failed to openly disclose to the NCAA the full details of his interaction with a former NFL player not affiliated with OSU.
The University issued the following statement from Bryant: “I made a mistake by not being entirely truthful when meeting with the NCAA. I sincerely regret my mistake and apologize to my teammates, coaches, OSU fans and the NCAA.”
OSU coach Mike Gundy said: “We are certainly disappointed, but we are moving forward as we would with any challenge during the season.”
Due to the ongoing investigation of this matter, OSU has no additional comment at this time.
NCAA Bylaw 10.1 -- Unethical Conduct
Unethical conduct by a prospective or enrolled student-athlete or a current or former institutional staff member (e.g., coach, professor, tutor, teaching assistant, student manager, student trainer) may include, but is not limited to, the following: (Revised: 1/10/90, 1/9/96, 2/22/01)
(d) Knowingly furnishing the NCAA or the individual's institution false or misleading information concerning the individual's involvement in or knowledge of matters relevant to a possible violation of an NCAA regulation;
My friend's fiance's brother plays for the team, and he told him if he hadn't lied about it he would still be eligible.BraveHeartFan;2999576 said:Way to go Bryant. It sounds like another case of someone being stupid, trying to lie about it and hope it goes away, and getting caught.
Wow, I hope it doesn't decreases his value.SLATEmosphere;2998656 said:That sucks. Hope that decreases his value though.
I hope it does. Then I hope we take him.Avaj;3000844 said:Wow, I hope it doesn't decreases his value.
He got suspended for lying to NCAA agents. That's an automatic suspension. I think it's a joke, but the NCAA rules with an iron fist... unless it comes to USC.HomeOfLegends;3004822 said:What amazes me is the NCAA can issue a lighting quick verdict here that ends a teams chances of going to a BCS bowl and hurts a kids draft selection order over a guy visiting his friend. No one alleges he took any money, only advice.
On the other hand, Reggie Bush will be retired from the NFL before the NCAA can figure out how his parents lived in LA for free. Total hypocrisy.
