The Cowboys wide receiver is having his name thrown around a lot this offseason.

Just yesterday, we posted about ESPN’s bold prediction that the Cowboys would release Dez Bryant. Of course, when you do a “bold” prediction, most of the time they don’t work out. The idea is to be a little crazy with your prediction. So instead of leaving it there, let’s go even further on the boldness scale. Instead of releasing Dez, the Cowboys actually find a trade partner for him, and net a decent draft pick in the process. That is one offseason trade Bleacher Report thinks needs to happen this offseason.

In an article where every team makes a trade for a player, Bleacher Report has the Carolina Panthers trading for Dez.

Dez Bryant is still considered an elite wide receiver by the general public despite three straight disappointing campaigns. Bryant missed multiple contests in 2015 and ‘16 due to injuries. He finally played in all 16 games this past season and managed only 838 receiving yards, with a career-low 12.1 yards per reception.

The Dallas Cowboys are paying Bryant to be a No. 1 wide receiver, though. The 29-year-old target holds the third-highest WR salary-cap hit at $16.5 million in 2018. He’ll move to second if Larry Fitzgerald decides to retire.

The three-time Pro Bowl performer may not be as good as he once was, but he’s still better than anyone on Carolina’s roster and still worth an early-round pick as compensation. The Panthers do own a pair of third-round selections.

That begs the question, would you give up Dez for a third-round pick? You likely can’t replace him with that pick, but could you use it in a trade package to move up and get a better pick in the first round. You could also use the trade to free up some cap space and make moves in free agency.

So who do the Cowboys trade for in this fantasy land of swapping? A familiar name.

Safety Earl Thomas

Now is the time for the Seahawks to sell high. Thomas is only 28 years old and has a year remaining on his current contract. The rest of the defense is falling apart, with major or career-threatening injuries to Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Cliff Avril.

The financial aspect of this potential deal will be a little difficult to navigate since the Cowboys only have enough cap space at the moment to re-sign defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence. Although, a Dez Bryant trade or release creates an avenue toward Thomas’ acquisition.

Maybe the Cowboys should just send Dez to the Seahawks and cut out the middle-man. If only the NFL were like other leagues where these kinds of trades were a regular thing. That would certainly spice up the offseason.

I could actually pull that trigger, but only if I knew going in to FA our top priority was either Landry or Watkins.
You would have to get one of the two in order to make that deal, and then you would still not be done, WR in the draft gets pushed up the board as well.
Earl Thomas immediately is the best safety on this team since Darren Woodson, that's saying a lot.

Watkins could be realistic. Not sure I'd want his injury history but he had good things to say about Sanjay Lal. I know we won't get into the big Landry sweepstakes either. Good thought process though

Nah, I'd rather see Dez with a team that could actually use him best to his ability, with a real QB. Like the Pat's, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chargers, Atl, Greenbay. ECT.

He deserves to win, and it would be nice to see him rip **** apart and watch this fan base rue

Why not pay for a proven FA. Too much money wasted on Nolan Caroll, Stephen Paea, Demontre Moore, the DT waste from Philthy that I cant even remember.....
Just pay for 1 solid "overpayed" FA and this team will be actually successful in FA for once.
Landry fits that bill.

I would really be surprised if anyone would take on Dez' contract. Its a bad contract. Why would someone pay him more in a trade than he would make if he were cut?

Also, just FYI, I know I have bashed the hell out of Dez because of his lack of production vs his cap number, so you you guys can take what I am about to say with a grain of salt if you want. I really hoped to see Dez take a pay cut or be cut outright, but I half expected the organization to swallow the jagged pill and keep him around for one more year.

I have a friend who seems to have very good inside knowledge of the Cowboys who is saying that the chances that Dez is NOT on the team next year are greater than him wearing the star next year. From what he is saying the Cowboys are souring on him very rapidly. It may be something other than just cap hit, or production, but whatever it is, it is really supposedly pissing off the Cowboys brass. Take that for whatever it is worth. But that is in line with Stephen's comments right after the end of the season. You could tell from his demeanor that he didn't seem very happy with Dez.

Dez doesn't even talk to David Wells, who was his mentor coming into the league.
Dez lived with Wells his first two season after being drafted by the Cowboys.
David is still a close friend of mine, and he tells me that Dez never calls, and doesn't answer any of Davids calls... take it for what its worth.

a POS okie st. overrated and overpaid WR or a kick butt Longhorn, all pro safety.......decisions, decisions.....

HOOK EM

I would drive Dez to the airport. Never won anything with that guy and he blew his best chance in 2014. Safeties can play well into their late 30’s. Earl Thomas could be our John Lynch, Charles Woodson, rod Woodson. I named those guys because they went to new teams and still played great and even won Super Bowls.

I don't know which is less believable ........ that you have a friend with inside knowledge of the Cowboys (that you have never mentioned before) ........ or that you just have a friend.
