Dez hasn't redeemed himself

Not only does it not make sense from a cap perspective, it doesn’t make sense from a talent perspective. You get better by filling in weaknesses not cutting the best player you have at their position.

We have some posters that have always hated Dez even before we drafted him. They have been waiting years to be able to come here and feel redeemed. You know who they are.. the folks that like to attack him personally on occasion claiming he is a “thug” or that he is an idiot who would be in prison if not for football...

A few months ago these racist were allowed to expose themselves in a no rules forum and boy did they..
They now have to dance around their hate with these threads.
Damn

Dez is in Dallas at least one more year.

But Dallas needs to draft his eventual replacement either this year or next. Over the next 2 drafts you probably need 3 WR's. And a TE.

Yes it makes a ton of sense from a cap perspective.

All of his salary gets added to the cap if he stays.

Dead-Money is money that has already been paid and hits the cap with or without the player on the team. The fact that it accelerates into the near-year when the player is cut is irrelevant because the total is the same regardless of which year it hits.

People like to confuse cap issues in regards to cutting players but in reality it is very simple. The player's salary will be added to the overall multi-year cap total if he stays and his salary will not hit the cap if he is cut.

For Dez the Cowboys eliminate 12.5M from the overall multi-year cap total if they cut him.

If we keep him, we pay him 16.5

If we cut him, we will pay him 8 and save 8.5.

We will have 8 million total extra to spend if he is gone.

We will need a veteran receiver replacement...a rookie, Williams and Beasley won’t cover it. Alshon Jeffrey just signed for 13 million a year with having Dez like production. If you look at their receivers making around 8 million per year, not many of them will be an upgrade over Dez, much less have his upside potential.

So yes...we could cut Dez and free up some significant cap room, I don’t think the team does that without a replacement on the roster since there will be a good chance we would be paying the same or more for a WR1 not as good as Dez when you factor in the dead money and the new players contract.

Again, that 8.5M in 2018 and 4M in 2019 for a total of 12.5M saved.

They can restructure another player to push 4M into 2019. That gives the 12.5M in 2018 and then the Dez 2019 savings pays for the 4M for the other player.

Regardless of Dez, this is a concept I want people to understand. The team makes the decision based on the 12.5M number, not the 8.5M number.

Many other WRs could have success here if the team force feeds them the ball like they do with Dez. Probably any 1st/2nd round pick in the upcoming draft would have success if they got the same number of targets as Dez.

I would look at a guy like Allen Robinson in free agency. He had 80 catches for 1400 yards and 14 TDs at a time when his QB was struggling. He missed this year with a knee injury so he'll likely sign a 1-year deal.

On a bigger contract Devante Adams would be interesting. If the first three years of his contract paid the same that Dez is scheduled to make in that time frame, it would be an easy decision. The Packers often allow players to leave in free agency so he could be available.

The Cowboys don't have to cut anybody until after training camp. If they come up with other WRs that look good in the preseason, then they could cut Dez.

That is wrong. Did you see how the announcers pointed out the double coverage on Beasley. That is possible because they don't double Dez.
They don't need to double cover Dez when he has the butter finger hands. Note he only had to shed the one guy to run for the TD he had.

Good chance he gets the axe. He has consistently under performed his contract and we haven't restructured him. I think Dez knows he is on his last chance. It's his farewell tour.
Not with the way our FO is built. They will live (and die) by their decision by holding on so not to admit to their mistake. JJ spent a lot of $$, resources and time with Dez on and off the field and will try to squeeze everything he can out of Dez whether it's the right decision or not just to attempt to save face.

Yeah it's not even close anymore...Dez is who he is at this point - still a Top-20 WR overall but definitely not the player he is paid to be. He's not completely useless like Roy Williams was after he was traded here but you have to decide whether Dez's 900 yards/8 TD season is worth it because that's probably as good as it will get for him the rest of his career.

287 yards/ 4 TD
267 yards/ 2 TD
501 yards/ 0 TD

Those are the stats for all the WRs not named Dez Bryant on this team. Are we sure he's the problem?

You seem to be implying I am one of those posters and if so that is a rediculous claim. You should be careful lumping people into the same classification. Dez is probably a nice guy, but he is not worth his cap hit. It has nothing to do racism. If you believe what I am saying is racist then you are delusional.
You clearly have an agenda that extends beyond football. I think anyone who has seen your weekly song and dance routine re: Dez can see that. I've seen you call him every name in the book.

Now why would I be including you? Or the better question is why are you including yourself?

Enough racism talk. The mods made it clear that this isn’t the place for that.
I apologize for calling it out. I shouldn’t have said this..some thoughts are better left off the board.

The topic of racism is political and out of bounds here. Was going to leave this open but I see some can't stay off the racism topic so the thread is closed.

In the future do not respond or start topics or posts about racism.
