Said before.......it had nothing to do with money. He'd become a lightning rod. High maintenance as some may say. The whole pay cut thing was a cover-up to distract and/or soften fans. This will go down in my book as the worst handling of a players release ever under Jerry Jones.

Dez Bryant hints strongly at reason for release, teammates react
The truth about the Cowboys' decision is beginning to surface, and it's not pretty.
The Dallas Cowboys saw fit to call their All-Pro wide receiver into a meeting with owner Jerry Jones on what would turn out to be the most ominous Friday the 13th in team history, with Bryant being given his walking papers on the heels of another season wherein he suffered a downturn in production. With a myriad of factors contributing to that fact, including those accountable to himself (i.e., drops), it appears he's the only one in the equation willing to take ownership of the part he played in the disappointing offensive campaign of 2017. Quarterback Dak Prescott stepped up and admitted he needs to throw a more consistently accurate ball, but it doesn't look like offensive coordinator Scott Linehan is prepared to step in front of anybody's train.

Now spared from the wrath of Jones as it relates to the game of musical chairs that occurred within the team's coaching staff this offseason, word has it Linehan is himself orchestrating the pieces to make the offense more "Dak-friendly". It appears Bryant has no place in that formula, despite still being the most productive wideout on the roster even in a season deemed as less-than-ideal for a player who still landed yet another pro bowl nod.
