We'd be foolish to let him go. Just roll with playing under original contract.

Cowboys looking to the future. Dez isn't the future.

I'm no contract/cap guru but would think another option is he renegotiates for a lower base salary, possibly add a couple years, but the new contract could include some serious performance bonuses

June 1st cut or a cap reducing restructure with incentives that allows him to earn his original money if he returns to top 10 form are the most likely scenarios in my mind.
I forgot paycut and incentives...... thanks

That is the extension....it adds 3/25m and guarantees another 20m......it lowers his overall base pay

It is really a paycut disguised as new guaranteed money

June 1st cut.. 4 and 4 seems like a good deal.

then i agree with you, I'd prefer the extension route. He's still a good player, albeit over paid, a great Cowboy and would rather not create another hole to fill. As red would eloquently say, I want him on our football team!

I've always thought it was restructure with incentives.

Dallas with an overpaid Brandon Carr was better than rolling with an Alan Ball type.

Dallas with an overpaid Tyrone Crawford was better than rolling with Damontrae Moore.

Giving Dez a year to restablish himself or definitely work his way off the team is the best strategy.

The money is a legit concern atm, but what if the player has gotten worse. If he's slower and drops the ball more often he's probably better off on another team. The Cowboy's FO should know what the state of his health/motivation are, what's scary is they probably know very little and are working this deal on guess work alone.

I will be stunned if he is extended or convert his salary to bonus. They didn't string this whole thing along the last 2 months to extended him.

That could of been done with 1 phone call to his agent.

edit: unless like Kaiser said it includes moving some of his salary to incentives, which is still a pay cut.

I thought about incentives, too. I'm not sure I like that option for Dez. It would give him a reason to want the ball in order to qualify for the incentive, which could lead to sideline rants.

I'd rather pay him the $12.5 outright, tell him we are going to spreading the ball around, don't worry about overall numbers, just focus on capitalizing on the opportunities that come his way.

I don't mind if his TD numbers drop and Zeke, TWill, Witten's TDs increase as long as we get into the end zone. I really just want him to focus and reduce his mistakes.

I get that, but I put "Dez wants the ball" in the category with "Jerry wants scotch" and "Jerry wants camera time". Its a death and taxes thing.

They really can't give incentives.......incentives can only be based on playing time, snap counts and games active....... since Dez played all 16 games last year all the incentives would be deemed Likely to Be Earned and wouldn't save any cap space

You can't give incentives for yards, catches or TDs
