You can't diminish the impact of slavery on the African American race.
You can't. However, it's been many years and you can't continually blame slavery for struggles that continue to this day. You weren't a slave, your parents weren't slaves, your grandparents weren't slaves, your great grandparents weren't slaves, your great great grandparents likely weren't slaves. How can you use that as an excuse for anything to this day? There are many ways for you, despite whatever kind of upbringing you had, to make something of yourself. It requires hard work and dedication though which unfortunately seems to be something many young people today, regardless of race, are severely lacking in. Nothing is their fault and they want everything handed to them. Change that and good things can happen.

I agree with Dez 100%. Way to go Dez. Hopefully, he won't backpeddle and retreat once SJWs and PC police come after him.

The only reason you think "SJWs" would disagree with Dez is because you, like Sharpe, don't understand what he's actually saying.

Yes. slavery ended 100s of years ago. However, actual advances in this country re: race relations began just under 50 years ago amid lawsuits, protests, deaths, and fights. There is still a generation of people who were on the receiving end of being waterhosed just for the right to sit at a lunch counter or ride the front of the bus. And you still have a generation of people who were the ones doing the spitting, kicking, and waterhosing during that era. You just can't minimize those things when my parents and grandparents have stories of things done to them for things that my generation and later simply take for granted.

So perspective is all relative...

What bothers me, though, is that it seems like it's the younger generations (aka- those who did NOT experience the true discrimination) who are yelling the loudest, and wanting retribution for the "wrongs" done to them. Correct me if I'm wrong on that, but I see very very few older minorities who are actively campaigning or protesting, etc.

Ok.

This really isnt a discussion for CZ, so I'm just gonna stand on what I posted and leave it at that. But have a good day. :)

After reading the statements from both, I agree with whoever said that neither are wrong in the context of what they are saying.

Dez isn't wrong in his views. They just speak to his knowledge of history and race relations. Shannon isn't wrong either, especially about quoting Charles Barkley. That's like quoting Stephen A when addressing domestic violence issues. lol

I think Dez threw something out there and Shannon took it to a level that Dez wasn't even thinking of going. But neither are particularly wrong.

Agree that neither are "wrong". As far as which attitude helps a progression to a better society for everyone goes, I would say Sharpe is wrong and Dez is right. Generally speaking of course.
