I was wondering why they did it since it only got us a relatively small amount of cap space. Now it seems clear they are going to restructure, extend. cut, whatever they can do to clear as much cap space as possible. And since they knew this was coming they factored in the fine as well.

I think so as well.

Several posters brought up that point a couple days ago - that it basically only "saved" about $1mm of the cap this year. Why bother when you could (and likely will) restructure several more significant contracts. Now it makes a bit more sense.


EDIT: Though I was reading a thread on extremeskins.com, and one poster said that Snyder and the organization only found out earier today. But I don't know how reliable that poster's info was.

you can still cut some players to create some cap space...but this isn't fantasy football, cutting players creates other holes on the team for which you'll need to fill

Buehler is one guy who shouldn't create a hole given Bailey's progress last season.

not really. Beuhler is already replaced. TNew is a goner for sure. And they can cut some guys and get probably as good for vet minimums.
