What helped him the most was Romo getting with him, and just as much in a friend role, and figuring out how to max out his talent because he had talent. It was different than a Pearson, Irvin or Owens and I do credit Romo with figuring out how to best use him.
Once he figured out the 50/50 ball aspect, the red zone and the back shoulder fade, he was using him to max that talent. But when he first got him, he struggled trying to figure him out.
What I think Romo did was go back to when he first got Keyshawn and he made that comment "Tony just doesn't know I'm open" and he was right, Romo wasn't used to throwing receivers open and I think Dak struggles with that concept because he's a ball protector a lot more than Romo was.
Romo and Bryant were a pretty good set but not so much with Prescott. And if he'd taken the Romo way his first season, he might not be the QB1 today. That style is not his game. And that's why they cut him, Romo's still QB1 and they don't.
All reasons why Dallas should've been looking for his replacement sooner. They didn't though and that shows a degree of ineptness on the FO and coaching staff.Dez is a child. He can't learn new routes. That's why Okie State always had him on the coach's side in college.
Dallas tried, but he couldn't grasp it. Romo used to change his routes at the line of scrimmage for him.
There's a reason nobody called with big offers when he came available.
It took them several years longer than they should have for sure. But they finally saw Linehan for the problem that he was and fired his ***, despite Garrett's wishes.
And now there's one left, and he's in the last year of his contract. They've been far too patient for far too long, but even that has reached its end.
Win or get out.
Funny, we all criticize the offense, but as soon as someone else does it, it's a problem.
It's like you all have that "only I can abuse my wife" mentality
JG has been here since 2007? If he gets an extension, we're beyond help.
After the Bills go 9-7 and Beas has 33 catches for 372 yards, we will all know the truth. Move on Mr. Beasley and may your pie hole slam shut.It makes Beasley still jawing about Dallas a little more sad.
Good question and I wonder who would have hired him as an OC when he left DET. All you have to look at was the lack of progress with Stafford, the number of pass plays called and the lack of using a good back, Kevin Smith, when he was healthy. Linehan was good at calling plays for Stafford and Johnson to play catch.Where's our genius former offensive coordinator working now?
Who hired him?
Derp.
Damn shame their weren't any coaches capable of teaching Dez more routes. Zeke hasn't been here the entire time this has been a problem.
Sadly, 9-7 got them into the playoffs for the first time in 18 years, lol. After the Bills go 9-7 and Beas has 33 catches for 372 yards, we will all know the truth. Move on Mr. Beasley and may your pie hole slam shut.

I also don't think he was a players' coach. I think Moore is better at that with not close to the same experience level.

I supposed we'll get to here from Brice Butler next.
Is it OK if I like the fact you misspelled it?Can't believe I misspelled hear. I know this doesn't deserve a post of its own, but I've got to correct that, and it's two late to go back and edit it.
Yes, I purposely misspelled two just for the fun of it.
Linehan was the opposite of a player's coach. Look into his history with the St Louis Rams. His player hated him. Marc Bulger threatened to retire rather than to play for that idiot. And both Steven Jackson and Torry Holt back up Bulger in that fight.
Linehan is an *******. An arrogant, back-stabbing jerk. He stuck that knife in Dez, Frank Pollack, and several other coaches last year. Somehow, inexplicably, after the horrendous offensive performances of 2017, the Cowboys and Jones family decide to give Linehan even more influence in decision-making. And everything got worse, not better, And then they finally made the right decision and fired him. Three years too late, but better late than never I suppose.
And now he sits and rots, an exile, on the outside of the league looking in, along with Paul Alexander, the idiot line coach they mistakenly hired last year, who we can also talk about.
The same people who can't handle the criticism now are the same people who couldn't handle it then.
Shoot the messenger. Especially when that messenger no longer wears a star on their head.
His comments about the offense implies he was at least willing if not wanting to do more. Considering what we have seen over the years along with the comments that Moore is open and receptive to players input to me paints a clear picture. That being that the coaches and organization as a whole were satisfied with the status quo. That obviously led to the stagnation many have been complaining about for years. To be fair prior to that Dez put up an average of 76 catches for 1,084 yards and 11 TDs over the previous 4 years (and that includes his injury filled 2015 season - it was 91 catches for 1,312 yards and 14 TDs without it) so there really wasn't an issue that coaches felt they needed to teach him.
Not blaming Dak, just pointing out that different players excel in different situations. Age and injury catches up with everyone. In this case age (Witten) and injury (Dez) starting catching up with both by the time Dak and Dez got here.
I agree with you that coaching is just as much, if not more so, to blame than the players. Dez's decline is, i believe, more injury related. I do fault him for not doing what he needed to do to adapt and be successful - was the right move to for the Cowboys to move on. In that situation I believe the team tried, Dez just didn't want to listen.
Why do y'all get butthurt when an athlete echoes the same thing we've been saying on here for almost a decade?
Garrett is a con-artist. A politician who hides behind empty catch phrases because his football IQ is not up to par. He's hamstrung a decent roster for years and gotten away with it because he knows how to lay it on thick with the bossman upstairs and can drive the bus over scapegoats with the best of them. The day he is gone will be the greatest day in this franchise's history since Super Bowl XXX.
Is it OK if I like the fact you misspelled it?
I don't disagree with most of what you've written here. I just don't want to absolve Garrett for the lack of creativity on offense. It existed before Linehan joined the team.
