I'm really not happy with the team, and I know he's not played "badly", and I know he cares... Nor is he the reason for the Cowboys offensive funk- because for whatever reason he doesn't get balls thrown to him. But if you told me Dez Bryant would not have 1000 yards receiving by wk. 13 in a season where he has started every game, I would have bet every hypothetical penny I had on those odds.

If this offense is supposed to work like the '86 Commanders "Smurfs" outfit where the ball is thrown to whoever is open instead of relying on a supreme talent like Bryant- than his selection is ALSO a bust. Noone can possibly know exactly why his production isn't greater but if the organization has questions on his mental capacity for the game at this point I would make him also available.

Nothing less than a 1500 yard performance prior to his rookie contract expiration date and I wouldn't even broach the possibility of re-signing him. He makes too many mistakes at this point- mental and physical.

Too many holes to fill to be talking about playing w/o Dez. There isn't another WR on this team that comes close to his ability. His presence alone opens up the field. Imagine this team with TWill, Miles and Beasley........I can't imagine that.

The scheme and coaching are the culprits here, not knowing how to utilize him properly IMO. This is one of the reasons I want Garrett gone....to get a whole new system and someone that knows how to use him.

He's arguably one of the most talented WRs in the league. He cares about the team. He cares about winning. His passion for playing football is undeniable. His enthusiasm is unmatched.

With that being said you do NOT base whether you resign this type of player on some arbitrary set of stats. Letting Dez Bryant leave this team does nothing but turn WR into a position of need. It would not help the team in any way.

Dez is not part of the problem.

I doubt the number of mistakes he makes is all that much greater than other top WRs.

The problem is he doesn't get countless opportunities to erase those from memory like the other WRs do, and the opportunities that he does get are basically all of the short-to-intermediate variety.

He's never given a chance to run in space, he's never really allowed to move away from the excessive coverage, and half the time he catches a pass it's on a comeback or a sideline route where his greatest assets are entirely limited.

This team has no idea how to use the guy. End of story. Someone should lose their job for that alone.

Dez was the THIRD best WR on the field last night. He had 12 yards receiving. That is abysmal in any weather against any team. Yes the system *** sucks. I'm so sick of Garrett I just don't know what to think anymore, but Dez can't get open?? To the tune of 60 yards a game?

I dunno man. Something stinks and it's the team but Dez isn't exactly the player I thought he'd be this year.

rofl are you serious? how about you watch the all-22 before you even talk about last game, and hes has been open several times in several games but romo just doesnt throw to him

Then someone needs to sit down with Tony Romo and find out exactly why, because Tony's here for the next 5 years minimum, Dez.... we shall see.

I love Dez but I don't think anyone looking objectively at his season would say it's been anything extraordinary. He's dropped a ton of passes and fumbled away others. He's made a few spectacular catches true, but where is the confidence to throw the ball to him like scrub McCown has for Marshall and Jeffrey? You say it's the system, I say it's the system- but what has Dez Bryant done to make SURE he's the man every day, every game?

Saying that you basically wouldn't even consider resigning him unless he has a 1,500+ yard season is ridiculous. If you want to use stats to gauge his development, then I suggest you take a look at what Calvin Johnson's numbers looked like at this point in his career and compare it to Dez's to put some context around it. Also keep in mind Dez was considered pretty raw coming out of college and barely played his last year.

You don't resign or release players based on some arbitrary set of statistical goals. That would be the worst possible method of building a roster.

Believe me, I'm pretty sure no Cowboys fan is feeling good about this last game, but Dez is not one of this team's problems.

I am sure the reality is somewhere between you and OP. Cowboys fans typically overrate anyone that shows that they might have a pulse, and Garrett and co. just dont seem to think that getting this man the ball is any kind of massive priority.

Dez not getting the ball much seems to be more of a scheme problem, it also seems Romo does not either trust himself or Dez to put the ball up there when he is covered well or double covered. That is the main reason other receivers still get their numbers, their qbs throw the ball their way no matter what and they are allowed to deliver.

This is the most frustrating thing about Romo this year. I can't even have this discussion because everyone strikes a nerve at the mere mention of Romo. Yes, he's playing more efficiently this year (possibly a little too safe), but he has not been getting the ball to Dez and that's a problem. And I don't care about scheme. An elite veteran QB will override his coach's play calls to get the ball in a player like Dez's hands. Do you really think Peyton would not find a way to throw to Dez? Even if our defense was somehow good this year, we wouldn't be winning any Super Bowls if Romo can't find Dez. I find it hard to believe that Dez isn't good enough to get open. Get him the ball. Look what Megatron does when Stafford throws it anywhere near him. There's no excuse for Romo not getting him the ball. If the play calls don't involve Dez, then change the dang play. You have the power.

Just look at the McCown to Alshon TD.

A highschool teacher and coach can do that.

Come onnnnnnn/

Was Alston open when he leapt up over Webb to score that touchdown? How many times did they throw the ball up and let the big receiver go up to get it? And yet for some reason, we don't afford Dez that opportunity. If Dez went to a team like the Patriots, somehow he'll magically have learned the playbook in that same year and he'll magically have known how to run his routes.

romo did throw the ball up for him. dez just needs to learn how to catch 20 foot passes.

It's very apparent that you don't know how a good football organization is ran. How can you point your finger at a player that was just added to the equation. What about guys who have been apart of the origination for 10 years in more important roles? Better yet, what about the man paying everyone? I hope Dez leaves and puts up that 1500+ yards you are talking about because your argument and point is silly. When I see comments and topics like this it makes me feel like a raiders fan. If this isn't a black hole, then I don't know what is.

The sad reality is that we may lose one of the most infectiously passionate and immensely talented wide receivers we have had since Irvin if we don't fix this scheme and utilize creative formations and stunts to spring him open. He gets separation regularly but one man can only do so much against schemes designed to roll coverage his way.

Move him around.
Run him from the slot.
Line him up in the back field.

Whatever it takes... Because we all know Miles is useless. Every NFL team knows that. Terrance Williams is going to be a great compliment though. Hopefully Dez doesn't sour of this mess and is still here to compliment.
