Does Dez look kinda slower than usual to everyone else. I mean he has decent initial burst but then it seems like he takes long lazy strides. He seemed much quicker and faster in college. Maybe it's the speed of the NFL, but it just seems like he is not as fast as I'm use to seeing him.

I said that to the people watching the game with me. They said it is because he is a bigger WR.

I thought about that too. One thing I did notice though, even though he seems to be moving slowly, when you watch the other guys chasing him, they don't gain much ground.

I will admit that i never watched him in college. I only have watched all the youtube highlights and draft show highlights of him.

But with that said I never thought he looked that fast in college highlights. I never really saw him as a flat out burner. What I saw was a guy with amazing hands and body control.

The NFL is so fast that very few players will stand out for their speed. Every corner and safety in the league can run 4.3-4.4 40's. So in order to look fast you need to be like Chris Johnson and be able to run a 4.1-4.2.

I think what will make Dez is great player in the league will be his ball skills. He has the abilty to go up and get every ball that comes his way. His hands look huge and strong. His speed is enough to make the defense respect it. But not world class. His size is nice. He seems hard to take down after the catch also. If you look at players like Larry Fitzgerald or Andre Johnson those guys are what Dez should be able to become. If you are expecting Steve Smith or Desean Jackson type of player than you will be disappointed.

He is similar to Felix Jones. His top speed isn't what you would consider "world class", but he reaches it incredibly fast, even when coming out of his breaks.

So true. He is a natural receiver that wasn't blessed with incredible speed, but great body control and hand/eye coordination. That makes him even more special in my book. Now that I think about it, the other "88s" weren't exactly world class sprinters. But they were still pretty damn good!

I don't know...looked pretty fast to me with everyone chasing him down the sideline Sunday afternoon.

that is the very definition of explosive.

Although, I think he is a hair faster than Michael Irvin was. Definitely quicker.

It's a little more deceptive but the guy does have some speed. Now he isn't Miles Austin by any means but he'll out run you.

Way faster than Michael BTW.

I look at it this way, he is fast enough and big enough to make big plays. This is not track and straight line speed means very little in football.

I thought the same thing that he looked slower. But his hands are HUGE! He looks like he has a baseball mitt on each hand.

He looked plenty fast enough to outrun the Bears' punt team to me. Not sure what the complaint is here.

In the Washington game he was fast enough to run around Deangelo Hall before getting tackled by a safety. Hall ran a 4.37 at the combine and coming out of college was considered one of the fastest guys in the NFL.

He does not look like Chris Johnson running with the ball but then again, how many defenders have you seen look like they are closing and come up with air? The only time I have seen him chased down is when the defender has the perfect angle and that will be the case 99% of the time.

:laugh2: I guess I could have saved myself some typing by just saying that!

The guy is 6'3 and 215-220... He runs a legit 4.45 and his plenty fast to me.

lets disect this

Height: 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m)

Weight: 225 lb (102 kg)

hes actually 4.52. Not fast at all for todays NFL standards.

now lets compare this to Miles Austin, who people say is not as "physically gifted" as dez is.

Height: 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m) same thing.
Weight: 214 lb (97 kg) 11 pounds, and he slimmed down this offseason.
40: Recorded a 4.29 while at monmouth.
