Updating a previous report, Matt Maiocco, of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the NFL said they will not investigate whether teams have tampered with San Francisco first-round draft choice WR Michael Crabtree. NFL Network's Deion Sanders intimated that two teams have gotten word to Crabtree that they are willing to pay more than the 49ers have offered.

Not sure I believe it. Think I read an article that said Crabtree couldn't be traded at this point.

Not really sure about it but who would really want to pay that *** hole?

maybe crabtree said that to try to scare SF

Dont know if any teams did try to contact crabtree or not. I was just worried alittle if the cowboys were showing interest. i know that the cowboys really liked crabtree. But I dont think they would violate league rules and get caught for tampering, losing draft picks.

I think you can trade him, but not sure at what value he would have now, with all the stuff that has gone on. And on top of that, are you sure that his foot is totally healed?

49ers | Teams showed interest in Crabtree
Sat, 05 Sep 2009 06:25:13 -0700

Daniel Brown, of the San Jose Mercury News, reports two NFL teams approached the San Francisco 49ers about trading for the rights to WR Michael Crabtree, according to Deion Sanders. Sanders, who helped Crabtree prepare for the NFL Draft, said the unnamed teams "will pay this kid, and he knows that." The deadline, however, to trade an unsigned draft pick was Aug. 14.

While I'm sure tampering happens all the time (I'm looking at you, Mr. Haynesworth), I think it takes more than a completely unsubstantiated report from Deion Sanders to initiate a formal investigation.

It doesn't matter if the rest of the league contacted Crabtree and told him they'd pay him double was san fran would pay. They own his rights. They are offering a fair deal. Crabtree and his agents are idiots.

If I were the niners, I'd start offering less than what I originally offered. The kid has missed all of camp, all of preseason, and its going to take him 6 weeks to get up to speed with where he should already be. Why should they pay him full price?

I say to hell with him. I'd love to see them either not sign him, or give him less than they were originally going to offer. If, and its a big if, he goes back into the draft pool next year, no way is he a top 10 pick. Maybe not a top 20 pick after the ridiculousness he's pulled. **** him.

Yeah, I'm hoping the 9ers don't give in on it. I want to see this kid get a dose of reality next spring. The only thing that would make it better is if they implemented a rookie pay scale.

In the end, I think he will sign.

cool thanks bluefin; does it say anything about trading for the draft in next years draft before the draft starts?

As far as I remember, once an unsigned rookie passes the trade deadline, he can only be signed by the team that selected him or re-enter the draft the following year if a contract is not agreed upon.

thats what i was thinking, whew, i was worried that the cowboys might have been one of the teams interested and trying to trade for him, now they cant and he goes back into the draft if he doesnt sign with 49ers

i think that crabtree will wake up and sign before the end of the season though,

With Deion Sanders advising him?

There's no telling.

The Raiders took a lot of flak for passing on Crabtree to select Heyward-Bey, they don't look so dumb anymore.

true, you know one thing i just thought of, but most likely isnt true in no way or fashion.

you remember how deion sanders and the cowboys were close and still are to a degree; what do you think about sanders advising crabtree so he stays out and jerry jones has a chance to draft him next year?

That would be pathetic on all accounts.

It's said that Deion is still a favorite of Jerry Jones', but I hope he's able to keep personal feelings out of business dealings if that is true.

I don't think Jerry Jones would do anything to encourage a player to sit out an entire season because of a contract dispute, especially when it's a rookie. Adjusting to the NFL is no easy thing no matter where you were selected and sitting out for a year will not make it any easier.

Primetime is costing Michael Crabtree money by encouraging the holdout and it'd be crazy to think more money will be on the table next year.

Crabtree is listening to bad information and his rookie season is already all but shot.

What happens if the 49ers never sign Crabree? Do they get an extra 1st rounder next year? If they did would it be the number 6 pick? Or does he just reenter the draft and the niners lose out on their first round pick?
