Paraphrasing

that if JG is named HC

look for DC to be

Zimmer or Dave Wannstedt

I give JG better jugdeman than that -

even Jerry would not strap JG this way

Norm needs to be put out to pasture.

I dont think there's any way he'd bring Zimmer back, but in regards to Wannstedt I could see why Garrett might bring him back. Wannstedt is an outstanding defensive coordinator and is very highly thought of by Jimmy, who Garrett obviously reaches out to and listens to. If Garrett is sitting on Jimmy's boat one day in January asking him for advice on who his next DC should be, it wouldnt shock me if Jimmy drops his name.

Davis is the HC there, he isnt leaving to be a NFL coordinator again. But he's also a 4-3 guy. He coached for several year under Jimmy and Wannsted. He was the DL coach here in 1992, then took over as DC when Wanny left to take the Chicago job.

Jerry's very keen on the 3-4. If he brings back Garrett it's because he doesn't want to "blow the thing up." That wouldn't fit with switching to a 4-3.

Fixing the defense seems easy.

Maybe hopeful thinking, but if SD doesn't make the playoffs and Norv is let go, maybe Rivera is available?

Or Mike Nolan if Sparano ends up being canned. Or more like Rob Ryan, since it seems like pretty much Mangini is pretty much out. But I still hope for Dom Capers, if he did indeed is free after this season.

Heck if Garrett is hired and he keeps Paul Pasq I am going to be in the camp of all the Garrett skeptics on his judgement.

That would be awesome. This is now what I'm hoping for.

The 90's are gone, let's stop trying to relive the glory days.

I have no idea if its accurate, but last week the question was posted in the Cowboys pregame chat on ESPN and all the reporters said Capers was under contract next yr in GB.

if Garrett chooses to hire Zimmer or Wanstadt fine... but if he's forced to accept them as his DC, then this will go no better than it did under Wade.

Come on...Zimmer. I can almost taste it I want it so bad.

Are you kidding me ? I'll take Dave Wanstead as the DC right this second..

This is what would happen under Wanstead:

DTs:

Igor, Brent, Hatcher ( resigned ), Lissemore would form a perfect DT rotation that Wanstead loves in his 4-3. Similar to the Casillas, Maryland, Jimmy Jones, Leon Lett, Chad Hennings of the '92, '93 teams.

DEs:

"B"-Ware and Ratt are the starters. Butler and Bowens will rotate.

LBs

MIKE: Sean Lee ( Zack Thomas part Deux )
SAM: Brady James ( more experience in coverage )
Weak: Leon Williams ( fastest of the bunch ).

Rotation: Brandon Williams ( SAM ), Victo Butler ( Weak ), plus we would need to draft a speedy LB or two, eventually, that would fit Wanstead's style.

DBs:

Take your pick because it doesn't matter other than they better tackle.

Dave Wanstead might not be a good headcoach, but as a defensive coordinator, there's absolutely NO question about his system. He LOVES to attack the QB and dictate what the offense is going to do. His motto is to stop the run on the way to the QB, which means penetrating DTs ( something that Hatcher, Lissemore, and Brent would love, and Ratt would be an All PRO DT if it wasn't for the need at LDE ), and attacking DEs. Emphasis on the word " attack ". He believes in creating havoc in the offensive backfield to disrupt the timing of offenses. Other than the defensive backfield, the weakness on the roster would be weakside LB. That player we cut earlier in Jason Williams, who last time I checked was thriving in Carolina in that exact position. However, that's not a big deal since WLB are a dime a dozen.

Other than those positions, we're pretty much set. Players like B-Ware, Spencer, Ratt, Bowens, Hatcher, and Lee would absolutely go crazy under his system.

Pass...

Zimmer learned his craft under Campo and Campo is a wuss. Charles Haley called him " fify " for a reason. Yea Zimmer talks the talk, just like Campo does, but he's as conservative and " scared " as there is.

Just baiting dbair. No Real desire to go back to the future. Zimmer is a pretty good coordinator, though. He got railroaded here, for little reason, as usual.

And Dave Wannstedt isn't conservative? That guy never called a blitz in his life and never got turnovers in Dallas if you actually lived during his stint here in '89 to '92. I think Zimmer would do as well if he had a Triplets offense paired up with his defense like Wanny had when he was here. And Zim never had the depth and talent that the stache had either.
