Paraphrasing that if JG is named HClook for DC to be Zimmer or Dave WannstedtI give JG better jugdeman than that -
even Jerry would not strap JG this way
Are you kidding me ? I'll take Dave Wanstead as the DC right this second..
This is what would happen under Wanstead:
DTs:
Igor, Brent, Hatcher ( resigned ), Lissemore would form a perfect DT rotation that Wanstead loves in his 4-3. Similar to the Casillas, Maryland, Jimmy Jones, Leon Lett, Chad Hennings of the '92, '93 teams.
DEs:
"B"-Ware and Ratt are the starters. Butler and Bowens will rotate.
LBs
MIKE: Sean Lee ( Zack Thomas part Deux )
SAM: Brady James ( more experience in coverage )
Weak: Leon Williams ( fastest of the bunch ).
Rotation: Brandon Williams ( SAM ), Victo Butler ( Weak ), plus we would need to draft a speedy LB or two, eventually, that would fit Wanstead's style.
DBs:
Take your pick because it doesn't matter other than they better tackle.
Dave Wanstead might not be a good headcoach, but as a defensive coordinator, there's absolutely NO question about his system. He LOVES to attack the QB and dictate what the offense is going to do. His motto is to stop the run on the way to the QB, which means penetrating DTs ( something that Hatcher, Lissemore, and Brent would love, and Ratt would be an All PRO DT if it wasn't for the need at LDE ), and attacking DEs. Emphasis on the word " attack ". He believes in creating havoc in the offensive backfield to disrupt the timing of offenses. Other than the defensive backfield, the weakness on the roster would be weakside LB. That player we cut earlier in Jason Williams, who last time I checked was thriving in Carolina in that exact position. However, that's not a big deal since WLB are a dime a dozen.
Other than those positions, we're pretty much set. Players like B-Ware, Spencer, Ratt, Bowens, Hatcher, and Lee would absolutely go crazy under his system.
