Did anyone watch ESPN Sports Science combine?

They had a lot of metrics on the DE/OLB and DTs like Donald and McCullers(sp?) on.

Barr and Ford did the same drills, guess who was higher in cumulative scoring? -Ford
Both were just lower than Von Miller's score.

Not saying Ford is a complete DE and that he will be the greatest, but the guy has a lot of things he can do and better than Barr for instance he hit with the same force as McCullers. Really not joking.

That said in a vacuum he is probably a high 2nd round pick, Barr I won't even say where I would take him.

I watched parts of if. Did Ford go after Barr? I saw Barr go and when he was finished he scored right behind Demarcus Ware and Von Miller overall. He had the best lateral quickness and 20 yard burst of any LB/DE they ever tested and the guy said he expected him to be the next Demarcus Ware.

"Hitting force" doesn't really register as something he does better to me. Im not looking for who hits the hardest. Kind of silly to evaluate based on that IMO. Barr had the lowest center of gravity bending around the corner, the strongest punch and the best burst. Those are the things I want in a defensive end.

By all means I hope people continue to listen to the negative press on Barr and then we scoop him up.

Im not saying Ford isn't a good player and I wouldn't want him. If we trade back I wouldn't have a problem targeting him. I just think Barr is a vastly superior talent which an exponentially higher ceiling.

I don't remember seeing the punch force of either player. But if you think Barr has a stronger punch, not sure how, when Barr is not known for his power. Yes I think Barr is definitely a more flexible athlete so I'm sure his center of gravity is lower. Acceleration is where it was interesting. If Ford did not virtually tie with Barr then he is a smidge behind Barr. They said Ford beat the average WR acceleration for the ones they tested. There is a misconception that Barr is a far superior athlete and I think it is very close between them. Ford had the same spinning velocity as Adrian Peterson. Again I remember the score as Ford-91.8 Barr-91.2 so Ford beat him in something else other than hitting force.

It sounds like the OP was looking for something to prove that Ford is underrated.

For the punch, they showed it with one of the DL and when they showed the rankings Barr was on there. It wasn't shown in Barr's segment though. And seriously, spin velocity? Come on man...

Like I said, I don't have anything against Ford. He is a good player. Just not on the same level as Barr. It also means a lot that Barr's frame shows he could add a good bit of muscle still while Ford doesn't look like he has the frame to get much bigger. I just see Barr as a better fit as a 3 down DE where as I see Ford as more of a situational pass rusher--which is awesome when you have a good rotation, but not with our utter lack of depth. If we still had Ware and Spencer, Ford would be a perfect guy to come in and just get after the QB, but I just don't think he has a future as a 3 down player at DE.

Then again, in a hybrid defense where he could jump back and forth between OLB and DE he could be devastating, thats not in our plans though. I just don't want it to sound like I am bashing Ford, but I also don't think he is underrated. He is rated late first early second. That's exactly where he should be. I would be fine with him if we wind up drafting there.

Both guys are situational rushers at this point. Barr has to learn a lot in order to be a 3down guy, including how to contain the run. I would expect very little in Barr his rookie year and if he took to coaching in a couple of seasons he could be good.

I can only find this on YouTube

I liked this but when I watched him against real live players who fight back I didn't see a lot of strength. Now xwalker has explained some things to me about technique not being the same to generate power when you're rushing the passer. I have a write up for him as well. I like him but he does need to get stronger. I won't throw the remote if we draft him but I just hope there are better options when it comes time.

Watch the last few seconds where he was ranked. Less than 1 point below Von Miller, 3 points below DeMarcus and above Keuchley......if he turn out anything close to those guys on the list Barr will be outstanding.

Barr is a work in progress while Ford is seemingly a finished product. Barr has infinite room to grow while Ford is what he is. I think it is entirely possible that as of today Ford is the better player but when drafting players you are projecting.. Projecting what someone can do with great coaching, an NFL strength and conditioning program, and more time under there belt. In my opinion it isn't even close.. Barr is the better prospect because his ceiling is way higher. I think on a scale of 1-10 Ford is a 7 and probably maxes out at a 7 while Barr may be a 6 but has all the tools to be a 10.

you may be right but Barr might turn into a big bust too,its 50-50 for me and thats what worries me about him.

I don't think there is any chance of him being a "Bust" with the Cowboys. I think the worst case scenario is a liability against the run who is limited to a situational pass rusher that gets 6-8 sacks a year.. Could be considered a bust for the 16th overall but thats the worst case scenario.
